Second last one before Christmas This Post Has 12 Comments Predator 9 Dec 2018 Log in to Reply I will be there. It will be nice to see everyone that is attending post their intentions here. No excuse now that the new website is up and running. Pete 10 Dec 2018 Log in to Reply Pink Bits will be there complete with the usual leaks. Longtall 10 Dec 2018 Log in to Reply More tape man!! Longtall 10 Dec 2018 Log in to Reply Weather looks very mild with gentle breezes starting in the South West, later on swinging to the North East and building. Both these directions are ideal at PD as the pond has a slight SW/NE bias and breezes from these directions are usually steady and less swirly. It’s expected that there will be some cloud cover early breaking into long sunny patches, so bring your sunscreen, a comfy chair and enjoy some real ‘gentlemen’ sailing PD style. Next week is the last PD for 2018 and it is planned to be a BBQ at PD with BYO snags etc. We have use of their BBQ, tables and chairs etc. Please respect our generous hosts by NOT bringing drinks of any nature. They are very good to us by allowing our weekly use of their pond and facilities, the least we can do is buy our drinks from them. Register your interest in coming along by replying below. You will need to log in first (if not already logged in) then return here and leave your comment. This new website is for you our members to enjoy and use to share ideas, news and opinion. Mike has made some excellent ‘how-to’ videos in the forum page to help with how to navigate and use your new website. Enjoy, have fun and I look forward to seeing you all at Puddleduck tomorrow. Caio Pete 10 Dec 2018 Log in to Reply More tape, more CA glue but I bet the old girl will still leak. Short races with time between races to drain the hull is the go!! Count me in for the BBQ. Predator 10 Dec 2018 Log in to Reply Pete, maybe its the water ballast that keeps the old girl performing so consistently. Don’t repair her too well or she may protest & you will suffer as a result. (And keep that NEW hull hidden or all hell will break loose!!) Kermit 10 Dec 2018 Log in to Reply THE GREEN MACHINE WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE WITH SPEED , GRACE , AND WITH A SKIPPER THAT WILL KILL FOR A WIN NOW AS IM THE ONLY ONE THAT REFUSES TO BUY THAT AWFUL COFFEE ….AND BRINGS MY OWN DRINK…….. LONG TALL YOUR REQUEST IS DIRECTED TO ME SO I WILL COMPLY AND NOT DRINK MY CORDIAL NOR WILL I BUY THEIR COFFEE I APPRECIATE THE USE OF THE POND AN ALL THINGS ATTACHED BUT WE BRING CUSTOMERS TO THE POND AN THEY STAY TO WATCH US AND THUS BUY STUFF WHICH THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE…… BY STAYING LONGER TO WATCH US SAIL SO IN RETROSPECT WE DO CONTRIBUTE TO THE WEALTH OF THE POND I FOR ONE DO NOT FEEL GUILTY FOR NOT BUYING THEIR COFFEE ………. SO SAYS THE FROG LOOKING FORWARD TO THE SAIL Predator 10 Dec 2018 Log in to Reply There is another way of looking at it. Green Fees. You visit a golf club that you are not a member of then you pay green fees to play there without joining. So the green fees are $5.00 per member per sail. Coffee, toilet facilities, covered deck, seating, BBQ ‘s etc are there to use or not use as you see fit. Everyone pays the same, Puddleduck makes a dollar or two, if they make enough they may even buy a decent coffee machine and solve all the problems. After all it is a private facility and reverse byo is how they choose to run it. Yes their customers stop, watch and probably enjoy watching us sail but I think you would be drawing a long bow to suggest our sailing attracts more visitors to the establishment other than we that are sailing and sometimes our friends. I don’t think it is in anyone’s best interest to try and bend the rules. They do have drinks for sale other than coffee and wine so not hard to get something else in return for your green fees. Longtall 10 Dec 2018 Log in to Reply It’s great to have a place we can air our views and discuss the issues that affect us isn’t it? Green Fees? Good comparison. Drawing more crowds? Ya dreamin. Some visitors stop and stare for a bit but do they sit and watch, definitely not. Does it make them buy more stuff, nope. We are a situational aesthetic. Something pretty to look at in passing. I have aired the view on occassion of making a small fee, say $5 (that includes a free cup of coffee or tea) for the priveledge of sailing at quite possibly the best venue in Southern Tasmania . The balance goes toward an end of year celebration of some kind. Am still considering it and welcome all views. The other issue that will be news to most is that I have raised the cuppachino/espresso question with management and this is what I was told. To buy a machine and put one in is one expense, but the killer is they would need to employ another full time person to run it. This apparently was the sticking point and the main reason why they don’t have one. Another is that serving coffee is not their core business and they don’t wish it to be. There is a massive investment in the Vineyard and huge costs in keeping it viable, so adding another cost on top when it is not about selling wine make little sense from a business perspective. I hope that clarifies the issue somewhat of why they don’t serve expresso coffee and the like. Cheers Pete 11 Dec 2018 Log in to Reply In all my years of sailing I have been called many things, but never “a situational aesthetic”. I love it!! Kermit 13 Dec 2018 Log in to Reply ARHHH A VERY GOOD ANALOGY GOLF GREENS FEE ALONG WITH LONGTALLS EXPLANATION OF WHY NO CUPPACHINO MACHINE …… Longtall 13 Dec 2018 Log in to Reply Thanks Kermit, it makes sense now, right?
