Well what a fantastic day for flying @ The Field.

When we arrived there was still a slight drizzle but absolutely no wind. Ricky set up his sunshade on the side of his 4WD and till the drizzle stopped we just stood under there & flew.

There was a good turnup today even with a couple of the regulars turning into sugar babies & piking out due to the possible showers.

We had Gerald, Kermit, Ricky, Mike & John all flying today with some having far more luck than others.

Ricky had the Limbo Dancer up first in the rain followed closely by my Bix Predator Sport V2 (yes I fitted the old Sport motor to the new Bix 2 V2) & Gerald’s Bix 3.

Kermit managed a good Bungee jump with his frog from the Phantom Quad & also a good Parachute drop, neither of which were caught on camera as our resident video guru was a No Show today.

Here is some archival footage from the first attempt last Thursday.

The Frog wasn’t as lucky with his planes, had a stripped aileron servo in his Tundra & a lost control rod in his Steam Punk flyer.

I tried one final setup with the Turnigy Plush 32 ESC to get the prop brake working on the Fox but to no avail. Will fit a standard Plush ESC before next flight.

Flying my MCDM-1 Fox glider today I did get to test the new radio – Jumper T16 Pro in FRSky mode & also the Motive-RC R8SB (FRSky compatible Receiver). Both worked great and the built in telemetry for flight battery voltage worked a treat as well as the RSSI feed.

Got some video from onboard both the Fox & The Bix 2 so once it’s edited that will be added to the post.

After an early break for lunch the rain went away, the day warmed up to around 23c but we did get a bit of light wind.

Nothing to worry about so I decided to try the little FoxBat ultralite (built by Graham C). The gain on the stabiliser was set a bit high causing a bit of aileron flutter but it flew OK until the tail came off. Graeme had warned me that he had broken the tail but when I checked it appeared solid, evidently not. Anyway luckily no structural damage, just need to refit the tail solidly and repair one CF wing spar and she will be good to go again.

Bro arrived around midday with his Twin engine HiTail scratch built plane but unfortunately his flight was short lived due to programming issues (or operator error) with his Taranis. Oh well once again, nothing that can’t be fixed.

As we were packing up the wind dropped out again so Gerald decided to fly his paramotor.  After lots of tries & lost of failures by several of our members Gerald is the first to achieve a successful flight & this one I think we did capture on video.

As stated before another great day of flying with good mates & a great location, pity for those that missed it.

Now back to the video editing.

What a great day it turned out for flying, as Mike said shame the sugar babies didn’t show. (Can’t wait for Kermit’s factual report)

I believe a bit more weight is required for the paramotor to get a bit more speed and to keep the wing full?

Like WOW  what a knock out day  slight rain at times but practically no wind with a degree of turn on the wind sock, the breeze stayed constant …. afternoon sun  was the icing  on the cake  The ceiling was about 800ft  with patchy  lower clouds at about 500ft  so VFR was in force   The high light for me was UNCLE’Gs  paraglider  show at long last she was away just like some sugar babes we know  MR MOOSE  has a legit reason but the others ?  some how sugar baby’s isn’t the right words more like sooks. girls , the list is long an all of them apply  I am surprised that our beloved president wasn’t there but as the 2IC WAS there he held court on this fine bunch of bad ass pilots  Superb flying skill were on show as the newbee Mr Ricky showed off blatantly until his battery’s were exhausted   then it was our own home built predator showing the junior flyers how its done with several aircraft in flight at the same time  “amazing skills ”  then it was UNCLE G’s  time  to show how a X  TOP GUN FLIGHT SCHOOL  student fly’s this ace is no longer a novice  his  barrel rolls were perfect now if he could fly barrel rolls that would be neat but his overall flying skills are almost as good as mine  an that’s saying something  an lastly unlucky predators bro john  with several circuits completed a switch to return to home found him in the outfield trees  where one jumped up and knocked it  from the sky  not to much damage was done  so he flew it from the crash site to the cars with a victory roll over the top  nice to watch and skilfully flown  At days end we all could hold our heads high  for we were the bad ass flyers AN THE GIRLS STAYED HOME

I’ve been a busy little beaver since Tuesday, the Fox glider has been fitted with a standard Plush 30A ESC to replace the newer Plush32 30A that the prop brake wont work on correctly.

Also changed the telemetry reporting from the Fox to the Jumper T16 Pro radio so now it should speak the flight battery voltage once it drops below a safe level.

The Bixler 2 V2 has had the supplied transfers removed (well at least the ones that have already started to peel). Eventually the Livery will be redone with adhesive Vinyl once the majority of the supplied ones (which actually look great but are such crap) peel off.

The little FoxBat ultra-light that met with a mishap on Tuesday now has the tail all re fixed and the wing fixings are almost sorted as well.

After the less than average landing

      After repair

I have had to order some metal gear micro servos to replace a couple that stripped (elevator & rudder)  so as soon as they arrive she will be ready to fly again.
