Today actually turned out far better than we had hoped for, we got no rain, no wind & it was mild enough to cast our jackets aside (for most of the day)
Only 6 players today (including our very own “Sheep Shagger” – AKA “Bad Angel”) who turned up late – as usual, but did manage to fly his DJI Phantom (and shoot some video- once he remembered how to).
He also had an FPV ride with me in the SkyClimber and got to try out his FPV goggles I had just modified for him to get rid of all the reflections on the screen..
Suitably impressed, he is now motivated to get his old planes out of mothballs & get back into FPV flying.
We will need to reprogram his RC radio to Mode 3 to get around the problem with his damaged right hand & then he should be good to go.
With the Aileron & Elevator on the left stick his crook right hand only needs to operate the throttle on the right stick (no need to use the rudder)
I hoped to test fly the 3D printed “Pink Panther” Cub today but a brittle rudder connection (that failed just on taxiing, luckily) put paid to that, oh well always next week.
With the Cub out of action I had to settle for flying the Wild Wing for the rest of the day.
Phil (Fab) maidened his Bix 1 (fitted with a new Sparrow-2 FC) and was suitably impressed, he also flew his Freeman & the Bix 3 so a good day for Fab.
Kermit had a prop size issue with one of his planes but did manage to fly his Freeman but not much else . He did however shoot lots of video & put on his usual sumptuous BBQ (after providing Cream Cake for morning tea).
Gerald flew his 3D printed cub, his Ranger 1600 & I think something else while Stephen was mainly flying his big gas guzzling Boomerang & his far smaller red & blue electric model.
8 km FPV flight

Yeah I know Kermit they are here and now the proof is in the pudding well above our field very very scary but at least there was no probing which probably would have hurt ones bottom I did note most bottom cheeks were clenched very tight other than the Sinker who I did hear yelling I’m here take me probe me and EVEN bent forward he was probably praying just how disgusting was that, anyway just hope they don’t return for the probe but you’ll never know, as in the Monkeys tune ‘I’m a believer’ also just say’n

Kermit told me not to rush putting up videos.
So here is the first test of the digital Walksnail Avatar on the Ranger 1600 raw footage from both the video transmitter and the receiver.

Great quality video Gerald. Digital is definitely far superior, just a shame about the content. You need to get up & out a bit to find interesting content for that great camera.
Apart from the OSD its hard to pick any video degradation between the plane recording & the controller on the ground.

I’m very happy with the quality Mike. This camera records in 1080, the one on the boat is 4k – even better!
I will try to get the plane to turn in the other direction as well next time.
