Forcett Lakes – IOM Classic Day

      8th June,2024

Ten skippers fronted upto Forcett Lakes today to contest another IOM classic day. Forecast was for sunny conditions with light NW wind of upto 4knts. We arrived to see light NW breeze of barely 1 knt, strengthening to 2 knts for short bursts. Being near becalmed at times was to be expected.

The format involved a handicap system of 15 sec for a win, 10 sec for second and 5 sec for third with no dropped races, and at the end of the day nine of the ten skippers ending up with a handicap. We aimed for 10 races, but ended up abandoning R10 as the breeze completely dropped out so we could fire up the BBQ.

The first two placings were tied on 33 points with first place being awarded to Lisa Blackwood on countback after recording 3 race wins and second place went to Pete Webberley whose result included 2 race wins. Both Pete and Lisa ended up on a 50sec handicap which worked in their favour with light breeze. Third place went to Wayne Behrens, 7 points adrift on 40 points. Well sailed to the podium place getters

There were some closely fought out battles within the group, with 1 point separating 7th- 9th places, and 2 points separating 3rd – 5th placegetters. Overall, it was a very pleasant day albeit in light conditions, with plenty of banter on shore. Well sailed by all skippers 😊.

Special thank you to Pete Webberley for supplying the tent, rescue boat, BBQ and the box of chocolates that was given to Don Ash today 😊 for his persistence in competing in all races whilst relegating himself to the comfort of his chair, great to see you Don.

Thank you to all the skippers that made my day very easy to conduct.

      Ian Hey (PRO)
