      PETER SMITH MEMORIAL REGATTA 2025

      DF65s – Puddleduck Vineyard

      Saturday 15.03.2024

What a great day at Puddleduck Vineyard today for fifteen keen skippers to contest the annual Peter Smith Memorial Regatta for DF65s.

It was a warm overcast day with the occasional spot of rain but that didn’t last long.  The forecast wind was for 7 knts from the NW which would have been nice, but we barely had a whiff from any direction. Despite this sailing commenced very slowly resulting in shortened courses of one lap around the pond. Thankfully after enjoying a scrumptious PDV lunch, the breeze did finally arrive much to the delight of the skippers.

Jammy, the designated PRO for the day, after winning last year’s event, did a great job rallying the troops with races, course changes and organising breaks. Thank you Jammy ! 😊.

Fourteen races were completed within our allotted time today which is surprising after the lack of breeze in the morning session, which can only be put down to the well organised race officers, well done chaps !

Third place today went to Lisa (previous multiple winner of the event), Second place went to Matty Gray (welcome back Matt) with this years winner Richard Fisher (from DSS) who dominated the day with six line honour victories, extremely well sailed Fish, Matty and Lisa. Enjoy those wines 😊 You realise Fish that winning the event you now have the job as PRO for next year’s event.

To all the other skippers, it was one of the best days on the water I have experienced with penalties completed without fuss.

To Shorty and Sheep (scorer and results) and Ricky on standby for rescue dinghy thank you all for volunteering your time today, it was greatly appreciated by everyone that attended. To Gadget who worked hard in the lead upto the event to have all the technology available for split fleet system, we are extremely grateful. (even though we didn’t end up using it ☹) Gadget also supplied a very yummy slice that he did in his spare time with only crumbs left in the container.

To Puddleduck crew (Darren, Jackie, Sue, Nick, Oliver, Kelly, Meg, and Maree and  anyone else that I may have forgotten), THANK YOU ! 😊

NB Videos and photos will be uploaded in next couple of days

On behalf of Gadget and myself, thank you for a great day

      Ian “Bodge” Hey
