Puddleduck served us up a boisterous, gusty, South-Wester of about 15 knots. Most skippers chose their A-rig which proved to be the superior choice today though (Bloody) Geoff did manage a cheeky race win with his B-rig. I find that you can sail with an A-rig in much stronger winds at Puddleduck than elsewhere. This is probably because the Puddleduck dam is usually smooth even in a gale while at other venues choppy conditions make tacking a much more difficult proposition. That said, the windy conditions did lead to thrills, spills and fast sailing today.
The rescue dinghy and the long pole were regularly employed. More often than not the hook-ups and groundings occurred between races while a skippers attention was elsewhere. (Yep! Myself an offender here.)
Peter Germaine came down for most of the morning and was extremely useful in acting as PRO. Thanks Peter.
One feature of today’s sail was that we had 9 different race winners from 10 races with race wins being obtained by skippers right down the score card. Congratulations to all race winners and congratulations too to all those who finished all races – a triumph in itself on a day like today.
As far as the overall positions went I managed to gain third place with an abundance of ‘handicap-saving’ 4th places. I also managed to lose a ‘Cherrie Ripe’ side-bet to my brother Al in race 8. Al,(Thrasher), is improving each week and in my opinion needs no further encouragement!
Jammy took second place today. (In the absence of a computer I did initially announce him the provisional winner). Well done Jammy – but you do have to settle for second today.
Today’s winner was John Penman whose win is particularly good as he arrived late and missed the first race. A look at JP’s scorecard shows consistency to be the reason for his success. I think that this might be John’s first event win – certainly in DF95’s anyway. I somehow think that it wont be his last either. Congratulations John!
Check your calendar for sail dates over the Christmas – New Year period. Next week will be DF65’s as usual. On Christmas Eve we will have a ‘bring-any-boat-you-like’ together with a bring BBQ lunch day. New Year’s Eve will be regular sailing for DF95’s. It is understandable that many will have other commitments at this time of the year and sailing is of course low priority (wink, nudge). So it’s there only if you can make it.
Cheers

Another fabulous write up Shorty, thank you.
We had everything today in the strong gusty swirling wind. It definitely was a dice roll for the Duck Luck today. Fantastic news regarding nine different first placings out of 10 races!
I’ve tried a different resolution with my hat cam this time where I am able to turn on stabilisation. Let’s see how these ones turn out.Race 2
