It was nice and sunny but without much wind at all when we arrived at the vineyard for racing this morning. Gradually a shifty South-Easter filtered in and we got underway. By the end of racing the wind had settled in with gusts of up to 10 knots but with it came rain and it was quite cold too. Testimony to the stamina of the boys, is that when the conditions were offered to the skippers after sailing nine races – 2 minutes to noon and with steady rain falling – all wanted to stay out there for the last race!
We don’t get too much South-Easterly weather at Puddleduck but using the figure 8 course in reverse led to a challenging course with plenty of up-wind sailing.
Congratulations to Henry Finnis who had his maiden race win, claiming race 9 with a hands down effort! Andrew Thomas all but had his first race win too but wrong-sided a mark when he was over a leg in front. Nerves can get the better of you when you are leading!
I took out third place overall today – having made the mistake of dashing my handicap early with some good races at the start of the day.
(Bloody) Geoff Matthews came second. Geoff came back from a holiday in Queensland just yesterday and straight into the winner’s circle. (I am betting that he scheduled his return just so that he would not miss Tuesday at the Vineyard!)
And today’s winner was that Smiling Assassin, Phil Turnbull who turned in an all podium scorecard once discards were taken. Congratulations Phil!
The hot coffee was so good with the weather turning cold!

Hi Bodge, thanks for the timer update. I was wondering how it was going. The holiday is going well.
Great write up Shorty. It sounds like you all had challenging conditions.
Julie and I have spent time in Finland staying with friends and at the end of 10 days in Dublin staying with our son and daughter in law. We’re off to Scotland tomorrow for our 12 day self drive holiday. Lots more to go after that…. 🙂
