A beautiful, sunny and warm day presented itself for our last Puddleduck sail of this year. A 5-knot North-Westerly breeze prevailed with the usual Puddleduck in-consistencies.
Bodges daughter Olivia came to do the scoring and kept the boys in line today. Thank you for your work Olivia. It was great to have you here and you are always welcome. Olivia was spotted having a bit of a sail too as we left today. Great to see and go for it Olivia – we need more women in this sport.
Ron Cullen brought the wrong boat today but joined the fleet with his DF65. He was accompanied by Peter Germaine and both started the day sailing with a -45 second handicap. Ron’s win in race #7 was particularly noteworthy. It is a kind of spooky feeling racing a smaller boat and being hunted down by a pack of larger and faster ones.
Buoy and fountain snares were quite a feature of today’s racing. Surprising this, as the dam level was very high and the wind quite consistent. I was among several skippers who had to take to the oars to rescue my boat.
Third place overall today went to visitor Ian Turnbull. Ian is Phil’s brother and normally races DF’s in Townsville. Well sailed today Ian – enjoy your holiday!
Second and first were tied on points but I managed to beat Phil Turnbull on countback. It was Phil’s birthday too so very sorry to take the icing from the cake Phil. Happy birthday to the Smiling Assassin though!
That was our last sail for the year but the action never stops. DF65’s next week as usual. All the best to all for a wonderful year ahead.
Shorty.
