12 sailors turned up for an enjoyable day of sailing today. We were surprised that the numbers were so low as the DF65 days normally attract a lot more people.  It was almost 13 sailors as someone mentioned that it looked like Poonie turned up but then drove back out! Unless Poonie has a doppelganger?

First of all, we were all thinking of Sue (and Graeme) who could not attend today. We hope that all went well for you today, Sue.

The next really big thank you is for Sheep, who stepped up (even with his sore leg!) to look after scoring duties today.  Well done, Sheep.

Sailing was very closely contested, considering there was no sign of the predicted ~15 knots. Some silly bugger stated before the first race that “we’re starting off with a consistent south westerly breeze which will strengthen throughout the day”.  I think that jinxed it!  Everyone seemed to behave themselves very well today but “closeness” of the sailing still resulted in rafting at marks.  Smart sailors, who did well, gave these incidents a wide berth and were rewarded with better placings. Also, if you were fortunate to catch the “lift” as you approached buoy three, you also did very well.

Third place goes to Jammy, who ran into some problems in the first two races which didn’t help his day very much.  Second place goes to Buzzy who sailed very consistently.  Big congratulations to Trout who won the day with three firsts and an amended score of 22 points, even with a huge 60 second handicap!

      Upcoming events

      6 May 2025 – DF95 Sailing

      13 May 2025 – DF65 Combined Sailing.

      **Breaking news***

We were quietly and sadly informed today while we were having our coffee that Puddleduck has been sold and the changeover will be next Tuesday, 6 May 2025.  Preliminary discussions between the old and new owners so far indicate that hopefully not too much will change for us, but that is still to be worked out.  The majority of the staff will be staying on so we will still have the familiar faces and undoubtedly the magnificent service that we are accustomed to.
