      Puddleduck Sailing – RG/DF65s 01.08.23

Survival on the water was the order of the day, with 13 skippers bravely launching their boats onto the pond, with plenty of nose-diving instances and being out of control. Forecast was for WSW winds more than 10kts gusting in the order of 25knts which didn’t disappoint.

After seeing the forecast last night, I had thought that sailing would be a non-event but alas we all gave it a crack. A few skippers gave the A+ rig a try but soon either retired or went for the A Rig, and for those skippers that had B rigs soon changed their rig for a third time.

Only 3 skippers finished all the 5 races today, which was a feat in itself. Ray was the first skipper to pull the pin as he only had a A+ rig, deciding that going for a surf was a better option. Admiral (Ret) only managed 2 races with his A+ rig before calling it quits as he theft his smaller rigs at home … rookie error Col.

We were missing our trusty scorer Sue today, but we were lucky to have a second-best option 😊 for secretary, being Sheep. Thank you for joining us Sheep, it was greatly appreciated.

After watching Scrooge win the first 3 races with his RG65, we all watched in amazement in race 5 as he successfully launched his boat up onto the treacherous fountain, nice work Stuart 😊. His rowing skills came to the fore as he successfully retrieved his boat. By this time skippers had unanimously decided to call the days sailing to a close, thinking a hot beverage was a better option.

In the combined classes result, it was Scrooge who took out first place on 8 pts, with Trout and Gadget tied for second on 14 pts with Trout taking the honours on countback. In the DF65 only class, it was Trout and Gadget tied on 10pts with Switch coming in third on 12 pts …. Congratulations to all skippers.

Today was the first scheduled lunch at PD with 9 skippers staying back to have a bite to eat. Puddleduck staff very kindly seated us in the main restaurant which was extremely pleasant (in the warmth and out of the wind 😊). Hot soup, home made pies, beer, wine and water made the lunch time experience very enjoyable, thank you Puddleduck Vineyard. The next scheduled lunch will coincide with a DF95 day in early October. Keep an eye out on RC Toys website calendar.

Gadget is off overseas this coming week for 3 months (yes correct 3 months, that is not a typo, very envious). We are sure you will thoroughly enjoy yourselves and will be champing at the bit to get back into sailing and flying upon your return, have fun 😊.

Lets hope for a little less wind for next weeks DF95 race day, see you on the water,

      Bodge
