DF65 / RG65 sailing at Puddleduck Vineyard – 3.12.2024
The forecast for this morning was showery with very little breeze and it didn’t disappoint on both counts. Umbrellas and wet weather gear was the order for the start of the day and despite this, fifteen hardy skippers fronted up to contest another sailing handicap day.
The light rain stopped a little after 10am and we finally pressed the starting gun about 15 mins late. We were also missing a few regulars (soft I reckon, scared of the wet stuff 😊) and they missed an action-packed morning …. well actually it was a drifter, 5 races in total of one lap each. After mid-morning the temperature rose and were shedding the jackets until another light shower greeted us.
We welcomed back Adrian Heard (SA) who is here for the next 6 months and Peter Haworth (Lton) who made the special trip down south to sail his RG65, sorry about the weather gents.
In the combined class, it would come of no surprise that Lisa (Switch) won the day on 9 points, expertly navigating the pond in little breeze, with two first and one second place. Well sailed Lisa 😊 Switch was kept honest with Matt (Mr Frothie) only 2 points adrift. In third place was John (JP) a further 2 points behind Matt. Well sailed 😊
In the DF65 only class, it was Switch, Mr Frothie, and JP again.
In the RG class we had 4 boats on the water with Gadget taking honours, from Bodge, Graeme and Peter. Well sailed to all skippers today in frustrating conditions.
Thankfully we didn’t have any major mishaps, nor did we need the dinghy (I reckon it was full of water, the ducks may use it as a second pond).
Today also coincided with our bi-monthly stay back for lunch event in which ten skippers who stayed thoroughly enjoyed a light lunch along with a chat amongst ourselves. The next lunch will be early February 2025 on a DF95 day, keep an eye on the RC Toys Tas website calender.
Thank you again to Sue for scoring in the inclement weather and the crew at PDV for providing their great hospitality.

Great write up Bodge. I’m glad the rain stopped right at the start of sailing.
Sadly we didn’t have our RG65 master in attendence today. Althogh, I think Bluey would have given us all a run for our money!
Following are some hat cam videos.
I increased the speed of some of my hat cam videos by four times! Unfortunately, this has made the video jerkier and it is a bit hard to watch in some places.
Unfortunately, my camera and video editing software doesn’t support stabilisation. As we were so busy sailing slow boats, I forgot to change my camera battery over again so I only managed to capture the first three races 😕
Race 1
Race 2
Race 3

Enjoyed the day guys, despite the lack of wind and the rain. Swing rigs definitely not made for no wind….
Thanks for the fellowship, might bring the DF next time though….
Thanks to Sue for scoring duties!!
cheers
Peter
