      Puddleduck Sailing – RG/DF65s

      9th December, 2025

Another challenging day at ”The Duck” today with swirling SW – NW winds between 0-25 knts making sailing very interesting to say the least. Fourteen skippers fronted knowing they were going to be in for a difficult day with their DF65s and weren’t disappointed.

Skippers opted for either A or B rigs but even the B rigged boats had their moments of rounding up and nose diving during some of the heavier gusts. There were plenty of rudders out of the water at times all for the wrong reasons.

Ten races were completed in a figure of eight course and by the last race we still had 13 boats still on the water, with Poonie being the only casualty. Chris Wood brought along his brand new DF65 today, first time on the water and only the second time he sailed a DF65. He started a little slowly but by R5 chalked up his first win, with another in R8 and a second place in R9, not bad for a first outing 😊 well done Chris.

With no RGs on the course today, it was Switch with her bright pink 65 with a B rig that sailed the most consistently finishing on 27 pts. Second was Putty on 33 pts, with myself a further 2 pts adrift finishing third. It should be noted that only 6 pts seperated 2nd to 7th place showing how close sailing was today with seven different line honour victors.

For those who maybe interested in the final handicaps after 10 races, I finished with 45 sec, Chris and Switch both on 40 sec, JP 30 sec, Bloody Geoff, Lance, Ant all on 25 sec, Admiral 20 sec, and Phil M on 15 sec. Just goes to show, consistency plays a big part in the results.

A big thank you to Graeme & Sue (+ Bonnie) for scoring in the less than favourable weather conditions. Some of those finishes were very tight which made scoring difficult to say the least ….THANK YOU 😊

Thank you also to the Puddleduck crew that looked after us again with post sailing beverages  and hospitality😊

Next week we have DF95s with the week after (23/12) being our last sail day for 2025. This is a pre Xmas “sail anything” day with potential handicap fleet races. We are also staying back for a bite to eat, with toasties, pies and pizzas etc available off the PDV menu and don’t forget maybe a glass of wine 😊

See you again on the water,

      Bodge

I failed to mention that as we had 10 minutes up our sleeve before drinks were due, an invitational sprint one lap race with scratch start was suggested. From memory all thirteen skippers competed but I have no idea who won, as I was too busy retrieving my boat from the bank 🙂

Maybe someone may know of the final result there please ….
