      DF65 / RG65 sailing at Puddleduck Vineyard – 1.04.2025

Upon arrival at The Duck today we were greeted with no wind, not even a slightest puff ☹. The forecast was for 7-8 knts gusting to 14 knts from the SE (we could only wish for).

Despite no wind seventeen skippers decided to launch their yachts with the hope some breeze may finally eventuate. It wasn’t to be for the first hour with 2 shortened drifting races. A swirling minor breeze of 1 knt from all points of the compass did finally arrive allowing four further races to be completed before we toddled off for coffee and lunch.

With only six races completed there was only one race dropped for each skipper.

Stuart with his RG65 was unstoppable today with 3 race wins and 1 second place. He did struggle in the last two races with a handicap of 55 seconds but still passed many boats on his way to 5th place in race 5. Well sailed Stuart 😊

In the DF65 Only class, competition was fierce and everyone had a chance, with momentum the key to getting a half decent result. Nick took home the chocolates today on 12 pts, Lisa second on 14 pts, and yours truly on 21 pts. Well sailed by everyone today in very frustrating conditions.

Many thanks goes to our scorer today, Graeme “Cooka” who took on the role as wife Sue (& Bonnie) were unable to make the journey today. Hopefully we will see you in a fortnight Sue.

A handful of us stayed back for lunch, with the majority deciding to indulge in a PDV Lamb Mint Potato Pie …. Yum 😊.

Thank you again to PDV staff who always take care of us yachties, with their hospitality 😊

Great write up Bodge. Thanks for jumping in and offering to do it considering its way past my turn.

I think the sailing conditions we experienced was by far the worst I have seen there. It definitely didn’t help with evaluating some rigging changes I was trying!

Many thanks to Graeme for scoring as it would have been very difficult when large clumps of boats were crossing the line at the same time!
