DF65 / RG65 sailing at Puddleduck Vineyard – 10.06.2025
Today was a typical winter’s day and it was a day where there were no double digits recorded.
· Outside temperature reading in the car on the way out to PDV was between 8 & 9 deg
· Only 8 brave skippers turned up for a sail
· We managed 8 races in the light conditions.
· The cold breeze from all points of the compass maybe had a strength of 3knts max.
When I left home it was wet with a 10knt breeze on the Derwent from the SW, and when I arrived at the Duck it was dry but cold with zero wind. Eventually a puff of breeze did arrive from the NW and away we went. A light shower did pass over us which saw skippers dive for their umbrellas and extra wet weather gear.
Many thanks to Sheep who braved the winter elements to be our scorer today in the absence of both Sue & Graeme who couldn’t be with us today. Graeme unfortunately suffered a minor medical issue on Saturday which landed him in hospital for the weekend. We all wish you a very speedy recovery Graeme.
With only 8 boats on the water, it was very close racing and today’s winner was JP with only 14pts to his name. JP sailed with great consistency with his worst result of 6th place in R2 being his first drop with a 3rd place being his second drop!! Second place went to Smiling Assassin a further 4pts behind JP which included 2 x race wins. Third place went to Nick (aka Putty) only 1 pt behind Phil.
It should be noted that 7 of the 8 skippers all had a race win, with Gadget missing out with his RG65 but he scored 2 x second places, sooo close Gadget 😊 You did clean up in the RG65 only Class 🙂
Adrian (Heardy) heads back to SA this week for winter and plans to return mid March 2026. Great to see you at the Duck over the past few months Adrian, and look forward to catching up with you again next year.
A very welcomed hot beverage was enjoyed by all the skippers after an interesting mornings sail.
Thank you to the Puddleduck crew for their hospitality, see you all next week.
Bodge
Coming up:-
· Next week 17/6 – DF95s
· Following week 24/6 – RG65/DF65s

Great write up Bodge.
The day turned out much better than I thought it was going to be.
You just never know unless you go 🙂
