Puddleduck Vineyard Sailing Combined Fleet 13 May 2025

So, picture this: thirteen eager souls showed up today, visions of glorious sailing dancing in their heads under a cracking blue sky. The only tiny snag? Mother Nature apparently forgot to RSVP with the wind! We actually had fourteen hopefuls, but our esteemed Admiral’s radio decided to stage a dramatic electrical meltdown, leaving him shorebound. On the bright side, like a true salty dog, he pitched in with the PRO duties and even kept Sue company while she wrestled with the numbers. Big cheers to Sue and the spark-challenged Admiral for their help!

We gamely attempted to navigate a course of buoys 2, 4, and 1 in what could generously be described as a ‘whisper’ of a north to north-westerly breeze – think snail-paced hydroplaning. Despite the conditions that could test the patience of a saint, the racing was surprisingly tight, with a nail-biting four points separating the top four. Hats off to Buzzy, JP, and Trout for proving they could even win a drifting competition!

A special shout-out to John Cooper, who apparently has a deep and abiding relationship with the number eleven. He managed to snag that coveted spot in every single race after we charitably tossed out his worst result. And let’s give a nod to Poonie, who is slowly but surely inching his way up the rankings – at this rate, he’ll be in the top ten by next Tuesday!

All in all, despite the distinct lack of propulsion, everyone behaved themselves out there. From my vantage point, it was less ‘sailing’ and more ‘a very polite aquatic parking lot’ – but hey, at least the sun was shining and we had fun!

Great writeup Gadget. Yes it’s true my Tx wasn’t happy today soI’ve got my best man (Gadget) looking into its innards as I write this so hoping it’s fixable.
With time on my hands I took a few random videos and still pics. Thank you for your kind words Gadget….I think I had the best day out sailing without the sailing bit..😉

A few medical issues have prevented my attendance lately so it was great to be back.
