Puddleduck Vineyard Combined Class Sailing
Well, conditions were definitely not what we expected today. The forecast 5-10 knots didn’t start until we were packing up to head inside for the DF65 Puddleduck luncheon. The luncheon was very good once again with the majority of sailors opting for the delicious pies they have on offer.
Most of the morning we had very light to no breeze so deployment of the temporary buoy to the far side of the dam was required. Sailing half the dam around the buoys for only one lap seemed to work OK in the light conditions. The wind had picked up enough for us to have two laps for the final race.
Our usual DF65/RG65 class was extended to DF95 today as The Smiling Assassin thought it was a DF95 day. So, special mention needs to go to Phil as he was offered a starting handicap of 30 seconds but he successfully negotiated it to 60 seconds. The light breeze favoured the larger sail area of the 95 and Phil was doing very well at the start. He then took it onto himself to change his sail to B rig and that seemed to even out the odds. Well done Phil for being a good sport 👍
Combined Fleet
Once again, well done Bluey for first position in the combined fleet. He only dropped eight points, consisting of two fours, leaving him a total of 13 points, way ahead of the rest of the fleet.
The Admiral scored a respectable 21 points for second place and Lisa just trailing for third with 22 points.DF65 Class
Filtering the RG’s and DF95 gives a well-deserved first place win to the Admiral on 13 points after a drop of only 9 points.
Lisa managed second place with a total of 15 points and Nick third on 24 points.Well done to our podium places today. Very good sailing considering the light fickle conditions.
RG65/DF95 Class.
The usual results in this class except for the addition of the DF95 which helps the spreadsheet to filter this boat out of the DF65 results.
Thanks to Sue and Bonnie for scoring again today and Peter Sylvester assisting the scoring on those hectic finishes, and for keeping everyone honest at the start line 🙂
Upcoming events
DF95 sailing – Tuesday 20th August.
There is no hat cam videos today as I will be very busy learning the rules and frequencies for the upcoming Remembrance Day Ham Radio contest. This contest commemorates Radio Amateurs who died during World War II. The contest goes for 24 hours and each State competes to see who can make the most radio contacts across Australia and New Zealand over this time. VK7 (Tasmania) has won the contest for the last eight years, so we are keen to keep our record intact.
