DF65 / RG65 sailing at Puddleduck Vineyard – 16.09.25
Fifteen skippers fronted upto the Pond today to contest another RG/DF sailing day. Today’s forecast was for blustery NW winds between 12-24knts which didn’t disappoint. But as we know, the Duck never fails with variable wind strengths and today was no different. At one end of the pond boats were nosediving / cartwheeling, at the other end some were becalmed …. just to make it interesting 😊
Attrition rate was pretty high today with only 12 boats making it to the starting line for R1. Someone, who will remain nameless, left his transmitter and battery sitting in the garage but decided to take on the role of RO and dinghy rescue.
Marty only brought his A+ rig so he quietly packed his boat up and watched proceedings from the bank. Smiling Assassin was running a little late for R1 and in his haste he forgot to place the smaller waterproof patch on the hull. Well, he did make it to Buoy 4 before things went horribly wrong …. It sank!! ☹ Luckily, I got to it with only the top 10cm of the mast showing and brought it back to shore. Hope it all drys out for you Phil.
Lisa only managed 2 races before electric gremlins took hold of the pink hull and she was also relegated to the sidelines, that was 4 down. During R5 a front came thru with strong gusts and rain, that was enough for Poonie and he packed up along with Cooka.
Overall, it was a challenging day, however Bluey made it look like a walk in the park with 5 x line honours, 1 x second and 1 x third placing. He did let Lisa sail his boat for R8 and R9 where she came a credible 8th and a first place. In R10 he started off 80 sec handicap and still managed 2nd place. Well sailed Stuart 😊
In the DF only class, it was Mr Consistency, Buzzy Behrens who took the honours today 18 pts well ahead of Ant on 26 pts, with a tie for third place between JP and Gadget on equal 28 pts with JP taking third place on countback.
Todd, who has only been sailing at the Duck a couple of times, notched up his first line honours victory today in R8, well sailed Todd 😊I am sure it won’t be his last either.
Thank you again to Sue (& Bonnie) for their meticulous scoring duties and enduring the uncomfortable weather conditions.
