      Puddleduck Vineyard DF65/RG65 Combined Sailing

I think the eleven sailors that turned up today really enjoyed themselves with bouts of sunshine and plenty of wind.  I really thought we would have had more sailors today being the DF65 day but maybe Christmas duties are getting in the way.

The morning started off with definitely A+ sail conditions but Poonie took the option of starting off with his A sail in preparation for the forecast strengthening wind. His theory was that he would hone his skills with the A sail, which we don’t use very much. When the stronger winds eventuate, he would clean up.
Alas, the wind was maybe far too shifty and variable for the A sail and what he made up for in the gusts, he unfortunately lost in the lulls.

The finish line of the day must go to Trout in Race 1. He was lining up for a podium finish and thinking he had it in the bag, his mind must have wandered back to thinking about his new car. He may have even glanced over his shoulder to sneak a quick look at it again and he completely missed the finish line! Not to worry, he quickly went about to attempt another finish, once again, thinking about his new car and having another sneak peek towards the car park, missed the line for a second time!  After going about again, he managed to clear his mind with some mindfulness techniques and humming a few Buddhist mantras, crossed the line in seventh place.

Geoff started off really well with back-to-back third placings in race 1 and 2.  It looked like he was going to be right up there today with the number three being his lucky number.  If he had got a third place in the third race, apart from buying a scratchy lotto ticket on the way home, things may have been different.  Oh well, still good fun anyway eh Geoff?

Dennis had his boat singing at one stage as I noted in one race, we were neck and neck rounding buoy 1 heading upwind to
buoy 3. His sails looked perfectly trimmed as he gradually left me in his dust. A well-deserved win in race 8 Dennis.

Good to see Bluey back with his RG65 but he seemed to have an out of sorts day to what he is accustomed.  It may be because he’s getting back into it from being away for a while or maybe the lack of other RG’s today to compete with.

Twice in the last two Puddleduck outings, the predicted winner who had the highest handicap, has not won!  The money was on JP to win but Lisa’s consistent and tactful sailing with excellent handicap management and lowest finishing place of only fourth place after drops, earns her first place.  Well done, Lisa.
As mentioned, JP in second and Trout in third. Congratulations to the podium placings today.

Sue, Bonnie and Graeme where all sadly missed today. We look forward to seeing you all again at Puddleduck.

      Upcoming Events

Tuesday 24th December – Christmas “anything goes” Sail and BBQ at Puddleduck.  Please remember to bring along your BBQ food and salads.  Drinks to be purchased at Puddleduck please.

A call out to any sailors who want to dust off their fancy big boats and join in for a sail around the dam.
Let’s face it, your fancy boat probably doesn’t get out that much so why not bring it along and have a bit of fun
and a catch-up around the BBQ?
I heard that Puddleduck will be pretty busy that day with interstate and international visitors. I’m sure the visitors will be suitably impressed if our armada turns out anything like it has been in the past.

Tuesday 31th December – DF95 sail at Puddleduck.  Lets make this a great last sailing day of the year!
