      Puddeduck Vineyard Sailing

Even with so many of the usual Duckers either sailing in or assisting with the Nationals Regattas at Montrose we still had a turn up ย of 13 happy yachties.

I would like to welcome John Cooper from BYC, the thirteenth person today sailing boat number 13.
It was great to have you join us!

Sadly Dennis had issues with 163 putting a dampener on his day.
The pond, although still variable provided us with steadier breeze than is often the case.

Seven of the 8 races were contested on two laps of the course around bouys 3, 2 then 1 which made life easy.
There were 7 different race winners with the Admiral snaring two.

The day was progressing well sailing in a breeze of between 1 and 5 knots until in race 7 we had a spell of 20 plus knots that created a few challenges to say the least. Nearly all skippers changed to their A rigs apart from Geoff who aired his B rig and Colin and Adrian who stuck with their A+. Having no A rig, Fab hit the road early. Phill with hindsight you probably would have got a podium finish as Colin and Adrian cleaned up in Race 8 and took out the honours for the day.

Thanks to all who participated, it was a relaxed, friendly environment with many laughs. As usual a special thanks to Sue (and Bonnie).

What a great way to spend a few hours on a Tuesday morning!
      Cheers JP

Great write up JP. Thank you very much for looking after the PRO on behalf of Bodge and myself.

I took a guess at what might have happened today by looking at the scoresheet and the wind history on Willy Weather and I came up with this poem with the help of AI. It’s amazing how close it is to your story!

      Thirteen sailors, keen and bright,
Turned up to race, with all their might.
But Dennis’ gear, it met its fate, A DNF, poor mate!

The Nationals called, at Montrose town,
But word got ’round, a whispered renown,
      At Puddleduck, the podium’s near,
A chance to win, and banish fear!

The wind, a trickster, sly and bold,
      From southwest, northwest, stories told,
Ten knots it seemed, a gentle breeze,
But twenty knots, it aimed to tease!

The final races, seven and eight,
Some sailors struggled, sealed their fate.
The wind’s strong gusts, a fearsome test,
Some boats gave up, and took a rest.

The Admiral and Hedley, neck and neck,
In DF65s, no time to check,
‘Twas tied, by Jove, a stunning sight,
The Admiral won, by countback’s light!

And JP, third, a worthy place,
      Despite the PRO’s tiring chase.
While Sue, our scorer, tireless, true,
We thank her much, for all she’d do!

Just like to say congratulations to JP on running the day. He did a marvellous job in often trying conditions which added to the enjoyment of everyone who came.
Thank you John, thank you Sue, a great day out made possible by your attendance and attention.

Great to see the numbers participating and the spread of podiums.

Well done JP, Sue ad Bonnie.

      Lost nothing Admiral, congrats!

Cheers, a frustrated missing sailing Trout
