Puddleduck Sailing – RG/DF65s 20.06.23
Eleven keen skippers fronted today at the “Duck” all with high hopes of a nice 5 knot consistent breeze but instead there was little or no breeze mainly from the NW, sometimes westerly, and sometimes from the SW depending on where you were on the course. Sometimes that didn’t even matter, it was just swirling around …. and yep, that’s pretty normal for Puddleduck.
It was good to see Trout up and about after his hip operation and taking on the role of overseeing today’s racing along with Sue and her ferocious (not 😊) guard puppy Bonnie, thank you as it allowed Ron and I to concentrate on our sailing (Ron did well, I didn’t 😊)
We also had an unexpected brief visit by Dave Read (Orford Sailing Group) who was interested to see how Puddleduck compares …. suggest you need to bring you boat next time Dave.
Also, amongst the skippers today were Matty Gray (Mr Frothie) and Lisa Blackwood (Switch) who recently returned from the DF65 & 95 Nationals in Queensland with a number trophies between them. Tassie had 3 skippers in the top 10 of the DF65 Class with Switch taking out the Master’s category, well done ! In the DF95 class, Mr Frothie won the DF95 event closely followed by Switch, again very well sailed by all of you, you made Tassie proud 😊.
Competition was fierce on the water today with plenty of action happening around the marks, with a few tangles and missed rounding’s. One special mention must go out to Flash (retired Optometrist) who lost count how many mark rounding’s he missed …. Maybe you should try Specsavers Flash? 😊
In the combined fleets today, we had 7 different race winners, with our old mate Scrooge a clear winner on 16 points with Mr Frothie second on 25 points, and Switch third 1 point behind. In the DF65 only class, both Switch and Mr Frothie tied for first place on 18 points with Switch taking first place on countback. Third place went to Gadget on 27 points who sailed consistently well today with his worst result of 6th place after drops.
Well sailed to all skippers today who braved the typical cold winter morning of around 5 deg, none the less we all enjoyed a great chat over hot coffee, tea, hot chocolate & mulled wine.
See you all next time,
Bodge
