Puddleduck Sailing – RG/DF65s
23/4/2024
It was a very cool overcast day at “The Duck” today which saw 14 brave skippers, along with Sue our extremely dedicated scorer plus her rugged-up guard dog “Bonnie”, and two equally brave spectators to watch another hotly contested sail day on the pond. The only thing that was hot was the competition, it was bitterly cold today.
The NW breeze 2-4knts sent a chill through everyone present and as usual swirled around to make sailing interesting. Nothing like tacking on a wind shift only for it to follow you back around and put you squarely in irons … oh the joys of sailing 😊, …. that’s why we turn up every week.
One of our visitors today was Dave Williams (Moo) who is one of the original “Puddleduckers” when sailing commenced at “The Duck”. Dave was the gentleman who introduced me to RC sailing at Lauderdale Canal four years ago …… Thanks, I am now the proud owner of 4 boats 😊
As mentioned, sailing was very competitive today and with no Jammy it was any one’s day up for grabs. Of the 14 skippers today, 13 had a podium finish or two…. Wow !!! great effort guys. 😊 I personally didn’t have such a great day as I did more penalties in the first two races than I have done in the preceding year. My apologies to all skippers that I unintentionally collected, rounded up and spoilt their race ☹
In the combined fleet results, ol Bluey cleaned us up with his RG65 on 19pts which included 3 outright wins, well sailed again Stuart. Trout came in second (after telling me he had a shocker) on 32pts, with Fab one point adrift for third place. Well sailed chaps !
Honourable mention to Martin Svensen who had his maiden outright win at the duck today R8 with his freshly painted hull design, looks great and well-done Martin!
In the DF only class it was a very close fought out battle with Trout and Fab tied on 26pts, with Trout taking home the chocolates on countback. The Retired Admiral came in third place 3 points adrift, well sailed chaps.
Thank you again to Sue & Bonnie for keeping meticulous results and hubby Graeme who helped out in the later part of the morning after suffering equipment failure. The hot beverages supplied by the Puddleduck crew were very welcome over the usual chat and banter at the conclusion of sailing.
See you all next week,
Bodge

Great write up Bodge. Although it was cold, I think the sailing went really well today.
After listening to the chat about lipo batteries today, I rembered that I did a presentation at the Wednesday night ham radio club meeting a few years ago (REAST) which included lipo battery safety tips. I’m going to extract that part of the YouTube video and add it to the thread that Kermit started earlier.
In the meantime, here are a few of my hatcam videos from today.
