      Puddleduck Sailing – RG/DF65s

      24/9/2024

After yesterday’s wild winds across southern Tassie, the weather gods took pity and supplied us with a very coolish NW wind 1-3knts.

Eighteen keen skippers took to the water and due to the light winds it was decided not to split the fleet which worked well, with the exception of a few mark roundings where seeing your boat was difficult. For future reference and to bear in mind, had the wind been stronger and the fleet split, sailing would have been extended to 12:30pm to enable an extra race or two for each fleet.

Overall, there were six different race winners today, Jammy (2), Trout (2), Matty (1), Flash (1), Dennis (1), and a well-earned last race win to Gadget (1), well done chaps in a large fleet. It was also great to see Matty back with a transmitter in his hand 😊he hasn’t lost his touch.

The top four placings were very close with Phil T (SMA) snaring third place by 1 point from Lisa, with a tie for first place between Jammy and Trout, with Jammy taking the honours by countback, well sailed chaps. To the remainder of the fleet, the results highlight just how competitive our group is.

The RGs didn’t feature much in the results today with both Graeme and myself enduring rigging issues and Stuart deciding not to sail …. Next time !

The hot beverages supplied by the Puddleduck crew were very welcome over the usual chat and banter at the conclusion of sailing. Also, a big thank you to Sue (& Bonnie) for scoring and taking beverage orders, it is greatly appreciated by us all 😊

On a side note, Trout found a battery cover off a transmitter and asked everyone who stayed back if it was theirs, which no one claimed. Prior to writing the report I received a txt from Trout that he had found the owner … yep it was his 😊😊, well done Trout😊

      See you all next week,

      Bodge

      Coming up …

      Next Week – DF95s (Tuesday 1/10/24 – includes bi-monthly luncheon)

Light winds! That’s rare weather considering what we have been having during the last couple of weeks. Sounds like a good days sailing!

Gents, I had intended to get down today and bring my RG65 , but preparations to go away next week in our van to the mainland unfortunately took precedence (i.e work shit to do before we leave 🙁 ).

I intend to have a visit in November when we get back (and the weather is warmer).  Do you have likely DR/RG dates for November yet, as there’s nothing in the calendar.  Also, what is your normal start time?

      cheers

        Hi Peter,

I generally only update the calendar one month in advance but it is consistent with 65s & 95s alternating weekly.

In November 65s will likely sail on 5/11 & 19/11, and 95s 12/11 & 25/11. Button press is 10am, but most of us turn up around 9;30am for a pre race sail and tune etc and we then stay back for a coffee and chat in the PDV cafe for half hour etc

Enjoy your travels and please bring back some warmer weather, that would be fantastic.

        Regards Ian H (aka Bodge)

        Hello Peter,

DF65/RG65 alternate with DF95 each week on Tuesdays, so November DF65/RG65 dates will be 5th and 19th.

Button press is 10:00am so advised to get there at least 10-15 mins before then.   Last race is before 12:00pm, then we head into Puddleduck for coffee, wine etc for a bit of a chat and catch up with people.

        Regards,

        Gadget.

Hi Bodie, just been checking the df65 only results and in all races there is a duplication of 2placings in each race . eg. race 1 has 2/8th, 2/4th, race 2 has 2/3rd, 1/0, race3 has 2/11th, 2/5th and so on. 16 boats but no 15th,16th positions.!! Cheers,Phil.
