        Puddleduck Sailing – RG/DF65s

        28th October, 2025

After the rubbish weather we have endured over the past weeks, it was a joy to be outside today in the sun, with hats and sunglasses being the order of the day.

Nineteen skippers turned up today (16 x DF65s & 3 x RG65s) which made it a somewhat congested startline. Thankfully handicaps kicked in which made it a little more conducive for clean sailing.

It was great to see Trout back in the sunshine and whilst physically he couldn’t sail, he was an enormous aide to Sue our dependable scorer. Thank you Trout for making the effort to join us. With  registration and coffee orders complete it was time for button press.

The wind of 1-3knts from the NW was welcomed from the blustery westerlies of late and the course was set for a lap around all the buoys in numerical order. The breeze did change to the SE later in the day but we decided to keep it simple with so many boats on the water maintaining the same course. We also welcomed Andrew Roberts today (#353) who missed the first three races making the podium in R6. Welcome Andrew 😊

In the combined fleet results there were 7 different line honours winners with Stu Harris taking the chocolates on 26 pts. Second was Buzzy Behrens on 32pts, Jammy Jones third on 38pts. Not far away were Ant, JP, Nick. It is becoming very apparent that the the level of competition is hotly contested with only consistency being the key to a top end finish.

In the DF only class results, it was Buzzy 1st, Jammy 2nd  and Nick 3rd with only 2pts separating 2nd – 5th place. Well sailed to all skippers on a relatively tidy day without the need for the rescue dinghy to be deployed.

The post sail coffee was very well attended with many discussing their bad luck at the duck. Thank you to PDV for their hospitality and Sue, Trout (& Bonnie) for keeping score and skippers in check at the start line😊
