Well, todays sailing day was one for the book. Unfortunately, the bad books.
Along with the very fickle gusty wind and huge numbers of boats bunching up at buoys and sailors trying to gain that little bit of extra ground where they shouldn’t, it was a recipe for some messy sailing today.
All sailors need to be a bit more respectful of other sailors in an attempt to prevent collisions. After all, we are all here for fun and to have an enjoyable morning sailing at Puddleduck.
We had discussions over coffee to try and work out a plan how to manage such a huge fleet but didn’t come to a resolution. Feel free to add your comments to this post if you have any ideas. Remembering that we want to keep the sailing social and enjoyable.
Apart from all that, the weather was fantastic with sunshine and 25deg. The wind was mostly from the NW and moved more northerly for the last two races. We started off with a course of buoys 2‑3‑4‑inside starboard start buoy-2-3-4-finish. Then for the last race it was around the lot with buoys to port.
The usual sailing stars dominated the leader board again today with Stuart winning the combined class with a maximum handicap of 50 seconds and three first positions. Well done, Stuart.
First position in the DF65 class goes to Trout. Great sailing again considering he had a DNS for race 9 to rescue his boat from the jaws of mega duck over near the BBQ area. This was because he was assisting Sue with scoring in race 8 and his boat decided to go for a wander.
Second position in the DF65 class goes to Jammy and not to be outdone by Stuart, Jammy also scored three first positions.
Third position in the DF65 class goes to Lisa. Well done again Lisa.
I am happy to say that I didn’t notice any fountain incidents today. Feel free to dob in someone if you noticed that 🙂
It was great to see the new faces sailing again today and hopefully they will become regulars at our “friendly” sailing days.

I still think that Race 9 should have been abandoned due to Trout’s circumstances. I know what it is like assisting with results (which is only right), and being severely penalised through no fault of your own.
A fairer result should be (for Race 9), average points on Trout’s results in his prior races would be a fair compromise.

Hi Bluey,
Thanks for your comment and advice. I did have a look at amending the sheet as you mentioned earlier but it didn’t make any diference to the result as Trout wins either way. So I decided to just process it normally.
I supose it would have been a diferent situation it there were no drops.
Definately something to keep an eye on in the future and amend as necessary.
