      DF65 / RG65 sailing at Puddleduck Vineyard – 04.03.2025

A lovey summers day greeted fifteen skippers at “The Duck” today with a very light NW breeze of 1knt increasing at times to 2 knts (hold onto your hats stuff 😊) swirling around to all points of the compass ensuring a bit of “Duck Luck” was needed at times.

Let’s just say conditions were frustrating with some skippers finding themselves in front only to find a hole or two and be passed by half the fleet. I have nicknamed my boat “the feel good boat” as it gives great pleasure to other skippers that casually sail past me whilst I found no breeze or stuck in irons 😊.

It was the day for the RGs finishing 1st and 3rd in the combined fleet with only Switch separating Stuart and Graeme, well sailed to the podium skippers. The dominate RGs took 4 of the 8 line honours victories during the morning. In the DF only class it was Switch on 13 pts, Jammy second on 19pts, and JP on 22 Pts, again well sailed skippers 😊

There was a bit of attrition during the day with only 12 out of the 15 skippers completing all eight races. It would be amiss of me not to make an honourable mention to Dennis (needs a nickname) who managed to score a line honours victory in the last race, only to see his boat disappear under the restaurant whilst helping score the finishing boats. Actually I think he was ecstatic with his victory taking his eyes off the boat whilst doing cartwheels 😊Hope you enjoyed the outing in the rescue dinghy Dennis 😊.

Many thanks again to Sue (Scorer) with trusty guard dog Bonnie, we appreciate your help every 65 day. To Puddleduck crew, THANK YOU for looking after us again😊

Just a reminder, the Annual Peter Smith DF65 Regatta is on the Saturday 15th March, with registration commencing at 9am. This is an all day event (9am – 3:30pm) with lunch comprising of soup and a salad roll (chicken or ham) being provided by Puddleduck along with prizes for the podium winners. Cost will be $25 per head and you must be a financial member of RC Toys Tasmania to take part in the event. The emphasis is all about having fun whilst also obeying the sailing rules.

Also, Gadget and I are heading out to PDV Thursday 13/3/25 at 2pm to clean the buoys. Any extra set of hands, scrubbing brush etc would be appreciated with this task on the day.

      Great write up Bodge.

I echo your thoughts with Dennis and him winning the last race.  After packing up, I remembered that I needed to return the dingy after rescuing Geoff’s boat but then I noticed Dennis was returning it for me. Thank you, Dennis. 🙂

Following are a few hat cam videos. I once again forgot to change over the battery in the hat cam and I missed recording the last race. Sorry Dennis.

If you need a nick name for Dennis, we call him “D2” at the canal

At least it’s not R2D2 as reference to my height and shiny head? And, it was all part of a clever plan to save the win for the last race and avoid the handicap. Anyway nice write up Bodge.

By the way Bodge, now that I have had so much practice in the dinghy, I will come and assist on the 13th. Even have my own scrubbing brush!

Ha ha 🤣 D2 it is and thank you for volunteering on the 13/3 👍
