      Puddleduck Vineyard DF95 Sailing

Low numbers today with only seven sailors turning up.  The other regular sailors were otherwise busy with the 2025 Nationals being held at Montrose.

The breeze was meant to start off easterly and swing north-easterly but of course, the Puddleduck dam has a mind of its own and ended up with a bit of southerly during the morning.

We mostly sailed buoys 1 – 2 – 3 – 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – finish, which seemed to work well with our low numbers.  Of course, the wind was very fickly ranging from 0-3 knots. It was not uncommon to be in the lead and then sail into a hole and end up last!  Overall, the sailing was very close and the yachts were bunched up quite close in some races.

Stand out sailor today was JP with a magnificent start in race one. Four firsts out of seven races give him the well-deserved overall win with 11 points. Rosco, a close second today with two wins and 15 points. Sneaky Geoff managed to squeeze into third place on 18 points and sailed very consistently.  Congratulations to our podium placings.

Gadget managed to break the JP-Rosco first place monopoly by winning race 6. Geoff should have won race 7 as he had an unassailable lead after rounding the last buoy (3) with the finish line in front of him but decided to sail back in the direction of buoy 2 opening the door to JP.

We suspect there will be low numbers for next weeks DF65/RG65 day as the Nationals will still be in full swing.  A big thank you to JP for agreeing to PRO next week. As we are all a friendly bunch of sailors, I’m sure other people will help JP out making the job easy.

P.S. Make sure you read the poetry version of the day following the scoresheet 🤣🤣🤣

Hopefully, a few hat cam videos to follow…

For those that are interested, here is an AI poetry version of today’s write up….

Seven sails on Puddleduck’s glassy sheen,
A Nationals’ draw, a Montrose scene.
      East wind’s promise, a southerly’s sway,
The dam’s own whims held sway that day.

Buoys one to four, a looping track,
Seven boats danced, there was no turning back.
Zero to three knots, a fickle breeze,
From hero to zero, amongst the trees.

      Close-hauled battles, a clustered fight,
One moment leading, then lost to the light.
JP’s bright start, a winning streak,
Four firsts claimed, the victory to speak.

Rosco’s close chase, two wins he earned,
Fifteen points tallied, a second place earned.
Sneaky Geoff slipped into third with grace,
Consistency’s virtue, he held his place.

Gadget’s bold stroke, a monopoly broke,
Race six he conquered, a winning spoke.
Geoff’s near triumph, a twist of fate,
A backward detour, JP’s gain was great.

Next week’s small fleet, the Nationals’ call,
JP’s kind offer, to PRO for all.
Friendly hands will lighten the load,
On Puddleduck’s waters, where stories are sowed.
