DF95 PUDDLEDUCK VINEYARD
18 November 2025
We were without Shorty and Gadget today as they have flown interstate to be with family at opposite sides of the continent, enjoy gents 😊. Have to be enjoying better weather than what we are currently experiencing.
The forecast for today’s DF95 event was for westerly winds 10knts gusting to 20+ knts and it didn’t disappoint.
All fourteen skippers that fronted today decided on A rigs but after a few nasty gusts that sent the fleet in all directions in R4, a rig change was called for. Unfortunately, the attrition rate started before R1 with Dennis (the Menace) having rudder problems which saw him a spectator for the day along with Dennis Oates and Malcom Patton. I too struck sail and rigging issues which saw me relegated to the sidelines after R4. Poonie too retired after R6.
We welcomed Bloody Geoff’s son Dean from the Gold Coast who very kindly volunteered ?? to assist with the scoring and handicaps. Dean was impressed with the speed of the DF95s and how easily they turned themselves inside out when a strong gust hit, “it was great to watch”. Thank you for your help today Dean 😊, it was greatly appreciated, (especially by me 😊) Pity your old man (Capt Araldite) didn’t let you have a sail, he may have helped your overall result 😊 Only jokin BG.
Overall, 10 of the 14 skippers ended up with a handicap with 9 different line honours winners.
The skipper with the highest handicap after 10 races was Jammy Jones on 45sec, closely followed by Lisa and JP on 40 sec, Rosco was next on 35 sec, then Phil (SMA) 30sec, BG and Nick (Putty) 25 sec, myself and Andrew (GG) 15 sec.
It shows the highest handicap doesn’t necessarily win the day, as consistency plays a big part in the results. It was the usual suspects that made the podium today however the results show how close the sailing is, with all skippers showing great improvement.
Lisa took the chocolates today with another fine light – heavy weather sailing on 24pts, with Jammy one point in arrears. Jammy did complete the days sailing with his A rig but was overpowered during some of the big gusts. Third place went to JP on 29 pts with 4th – 6th place within striking distance.
Well sailed today by all skippers, it was tough going out there today 😊
Thank you again to PDV for their hospitality, happy smiles and enjoyable beverages,
Bodge
PS I believe Pizzas are now on the menu and led to believe are very scrumptious ….
Might have to try one !!!

well done Bodge, I feel the resulting finishing handicaps will be of interest to each sailor to see if they can better their previous handicaps.
I know it’s extra work but thanks .
