      PUDDLEDUCK VINEYARD SAILING – DF95

      23.01.24

Overcast sky with little breeze at the Duck greeted twelve keen skippers today to contest another round of DF95 handicap racing.

The slight NE breeze of 1 knot was enough to get us under way and as usual shifted around depending upon where you were on the pond. A figure 8 course to buoys 1 – 2 – 4 – 3 worked extremely well although frustrating at times being becalmed. Clean racing was the order of the day with skippers in most instances allowing buoy room.

The only incidents to note were, Jammy #23 found the claws of the fountain in R6, and The Smiling Assassin #261 hooked his keel around buoy 2 in the last race requiring the rescue dinghy.

Sheep #55 loaned his boat to Flash (Bruce Palmer) for the day as he had a near Pickle Ball career ending hamstring injury and kindly took on the scoring and handicap duties. Thank you Sheep 😊

Jammy had another day out today excelling in the light wind with a podium finish in every race he finished with a total of 10 points. In R8 he started on the maximum handicap of 60 sec and still beat everyone by a country mile. Well sailed Jammy.

Trout came in second on 17 points, with myself third on 18 points. There were plenty of mixed results further down the list but still very competitive. The last race you could have thrown a blanket over the fleet when finishing! (apart from Jammy, I think he had packed up and was politely waiting for his coffee 😊)

Great write up Bodge.  I think the day was enjoyed by most people.  The sailing in the videos looks very smooth.

Here is hatcam footage from Race 1.  It’s a bit slow to process and upload as the videos are quite long due to the light winds.

      More videos to follow…
