We don’t often get to use our B-rigs at Puddleduck, – in fact in the last 3 years I can only remember one or two occasions when they came out of the rig box – so today was exceptional! Most skippers rigged their A initially even despite the strong and gusty North-Westerly wind but by race #3 nearly everyone had been knocked down, nose-dived or caught in-irons and so had suited down to their B-rig. Martin Svensen and Andrew Thomas were the only ones brave enough to stick with the A but found the going pretty tough at times.

Phil Jackman was PRO again today. He set 3-lap courses as the boats were flying and the extra lap was needed to make races long enough. Thanks so much for your work Trout. We certainly hope that you are back on the water again next week.

The blustery conditions took their toll and there were quite a a few DNF’s and DNS’s. Only four skippers were able to complete the full complement of ten races. Great seamanship Phil Turnbull, Nick Connor, John Penman and Ian Hey!

Finishing all races no doubt helped Nick and Phil to gain overall podium honours today finishing 2nd and third respectively. The cream does rise on days like today so it was no surprise to find that Buzzy Behrens took out the day with a 4 point margin. He and Lisa Blackwood were the only skippers to win more than one race today. So congratulations Wayne, Lisa, Nick, Phil and all other skippers too as I think that by and large everyone handled the difficult conditions well.

Gadget brought some of his legendary baking along to share at coffee time. That coffee slice was absolutely terrific Gadget. Thank you so much.

Great write up Shorty.  It was definitely tough in those strong gusts. I just wish I had switched to the B rig sooner!

Big thank you to Trout for the PRO. He kept people honest on the start line.

I’m glad everyone enjoyed the coffee slice (except for Andrew as he doesn’t like coffee!!!). The recipe was a bit different with how they do the icing with butter, chocolate and coffee all together in the microwave at the same time to heat up. I wouldn’t have done it that way and I wasn’t sure how it would work out but you have to follow the recipe.

Well done to the podium placings, esp Buzzy considering he had a DNF on race 2!
