The 2nd of December – summer proper but it is still very cool! Five to ten knots of wind though which is pretty much ideal for DF95 although the predominant direction was from the West which does make it difficult to set a good course at Puddleduck.  I often wish that our dam faced a slightly different direction or we could twist it to suit! In the end we decided upon the figure 8 course as it does accommodate shifts both to the North and the South. Sixteen starters was a good turnout and probably getting close to maximum for comfortable racing of DF95’s at this venue.

We were pleased to welcome new member Malcolm Patton to the group. It took Malcolm a couple of races before he was comfortable with the controls but he showed enough to indicate he knows his way around a yacht course. We hope that you enjoy racing your DF95 Malcolm.

Bodge was ready for coffee after race nine and fair enough too as it was just 2 minutes to 12 o-clock and he had had a  frustrating morning. The only way to persuaded him that another race was in order was by quickly pressing the start button and all he could do was relaunch his boat.  It worked out well for him though as he had a great lead all the way around race win!

Race winning today was shared around with Nick Connor the only skipper to earn two race wins. Otherwise there were race wins were recorded right down the table. This resulted in a tight scoreboard with a lot of skippers battling for positions 2 to 11 and a three way countback for positions 6,7 and 8. But Buzzy Behrens was the clear winner 7 points ahead and with 5 podium finishes in the mix. Peter Ross took out second place with just one 2nd place as his only podium – but with lots of lovely handicap preserving 4th positions. And Phil Jackman took out the third place on the dais after finishing the morning strongly.

A calendar check for December to the new year:

      Next Tuesday 9th Dec: DF65

      Tuesday 16th Dec: DF95

Tuesday 23rd Dec: Bring any boat and stay for lunch at Puddleduck (order from the menu -no BBQ)

There will be no sailing the week after Christmas but we will restart on 6th January which will be a DF65 day.
