There was steady rain falling when I left home this morning and in truth I felt I was only heading out as we do not have a good mechanism to cancel sailing. I was thinking that most skippers would be thinking the same and many would have decided to stay dry and give sailing a miss. Yet by the time that I arrived at Puddleduck the rain had all but stopped and there were ten skippers keen to race. As the morning proceeded the day got better and better and we finished sitting out in warm sunshine enjoying our delicious pie for lunch and getting a bit sunburnt too. There was not much wind – but enough – 0 to 2 knots North West to North East which set the scene for some good racing. Phil Jackman took the PRO’s chair and kept the racing happening efficiently throughout the morning. Thanks Trout!
The water level in the dam was noticeably low today which was surprising give the heavy overnight rain. I am guessing that there may have been some use for irrigation recently. I hope that they can replenish it soon as we would not want it much lower for sailing.
Today we welcomed visitor Andrew Wallace for the first time at the vineyard today. We hope that you enjoyed your sail Andrew and will be able to make your sailing regular.
An honourable mention today goes to Dave Poon who had a race win in the last race of the day after leading the whole way around. I am not sure if that was Poonies first race win or not but in any case race wins have been scarce in the past for Dave and it was a very well sailed race and totally deserves congratulations. Poonie missed our coffee chat where we announce the scoresheet by I can assure you Dave that there was a good round of applause for you when we announced results today. Well done Dave.
Another special mention goes to Dennis Bowden who took out race # 4 in a sail-away-leave-all-others-for-dead effort. His winning effort also gave him the nod over me when it came to count-back settling a tied score.
Third place overall today went to John Penman. That unmistakable bright pink hull was always near the head of the fleet. Well sailed John! Lisa hasn’t been seen too much lately at radio sailing venues as she has been recovering from a bout of influenza so it was great to see her back on the water today and in her usual good form. Lisa finished the day with nothing worse than 4th after discards were taken. Congratulations Lisa!
Today’s winner also deserves special accolade as Gadget took out the day – his first ever event win. Starting the day with back to back wins is never a good recipe for success, but Gadget achieved his win sailing from a handicap that was high all day. In the last race he started 55 seconds behind the front markers. Gadget finished the day just one point ahead of Lisa and like her had nothing worse that 4th on his scorecard. Thoroughly well sailed Ron!
The pies, coffee and chat were all excellent as usual. Our next stay for lunch outing will be the pre-Christmas all comers day.

Great write up Shorty 👍, you managed to redeem yourself in the last race with a podium and a handicap if we went into R9 😂
