Wild DF95 sailing today was had by 12 sailors.

The wind started westerly which is not the best direction for Puddleduck, so a course of start – buoy 3 – 4 – 2 – 1 – inside port start buoy – 3 – 4 – 2 – 1 – finish was chosen.  The wind proved to be so variable throughout the morning that it was better just to stick with the original course.

Here’s a screen capture from Willy Weather to show the variation in the gusts we had which made for a challenging day.

Quite a few arguments with buoys were had throughout the morning but the buoys always seem to win. Several sailors wound up getting tangled and were stuck until the end of that race.  There was also at least one fountain incident that occurred and the rescue dinghy was called on more than once!

It seemed that if you could master avoiding bunch-ups on the corners, you could gain a few places in the fleet which proved rewarding for some.

Adrian and his wife Meredith were visiting from Adelaide and had heard about Puddleduck sailing so they popped in to see what all the fuss was about.  Adrian has been sailing RC yachts for quite some time, specifically Lasers. He offered to help out with the scoring which was greatly appreciated.  Tassy is a home away from home for them so I believe we might be seeing more of them and they are most welcome.

We managed to get our 10 races finished with 15 minutes to spare, so the last race for the day was a non-scored scratch race for fun.  Adrian was in control of my boat #164 and came third behind Jammy and Phil. Not bad for first sail in the fickle winds of Puddleduck.

Congratulations to Trout for first position today with 21 points. It was very close racing against Jammy who came in second on 23 points.  Fab rounds out the podium positions in third showing off his new blue icarex sails on 28 points.

It seems that I had some problems with my hat cam and only managed to capture races 9, 10 and the scratch race which will be uploaded shortly.
