There has been no change to the weather pattern for a few weeks. Windy again. There was a blustery and swirling Westerly at Pudleduck today. A few of the skippers tried their A-rigs probably thinking along the lines that you can often get away with being overpowered at the vineyard especially on a day when you know that the course will not involve a lot of upwind work. But in the very first race all the B-rigged boats beat all the A-rigged boats proving a point and sending skippers to their rig boxes to shorten down.
Skippers who finished races today deserve congratulations on a gritty effort as it was definitely a hard day at the office. Alan’s grandson Benny Short sailed as a guest today and was one who did a great job to finish in all races. I am sure that the skills that he is learning in Radio Sailing will transfer well to his sabot sailing with his season opening happening soon. All the best for your sailing season Benny.
Phil Turnbull and Ron Cullen tied for 2nd and 3rd place overall with Phil getting the nod on count-back. Both skippers had two race wins but Phil had more second places than Gadget. But well sailed by both. I managed to win the day and with an all podium scorecard after taking discards. It was a welcome return to some form but left me wondering why I couldn’t have done that in the State Titles last week?
And a date for your calendar! The Risdon Brook Radio Yacht Club will again be hosting the ‘Show Day Showdown’ at Risdon Brook Dam on Show Day (Thursday 23rd October). DF65’s will be raced in the morning starting from 10:00. After a BBQ lunch ($2 coin donation) there will be DF95 racing in the afternoon. If you are currently only racing DF65’s then the afternoon might be a chance to have a little try on a DF95 as club members will be encouraged to share their boat for a race or two. I remember that there was a good turnout from Puddleduck to this event last year despite the very typical Show Day weather, so lets do it again and hope for better conditions.

Another great write up Shorty and well sailed ! You captured the day well, with Only 3 pts separating 2nd – 5thplace …. Close racing 👍😂
