A good turnout today for the 9:30 am start for flying @ the field. This is our first fly for 2026
9 pilots all vying for air time today & the skies often felt rather crowded.
No Kermit & his trusty camera today however Andrew (GG), Chris (Hoppy) & Mike (Predator) all managed to capture some video so we should be OK.
Ron & I both decided on flying a bit of FPV today (first for 2026) whilst the others were predominantly flying LOS (Line of Sight).
A couple of unfortunate prangs today with Stephen totalling his big gas powered Boomerang, and one of the other guys doing significant (but repairable) damage to his Bixler 1.

We missed Kermit and his camera today as there were many bingles, none of which were properly caught on my camera. But at the end of my footage at least wre caught Stephen’s Walk of Shame when his Boomerang failed to return.

You did a good job capturing the days activity Hoppy 👍
Have you been going to Kermit’s Top Gun Video Capture classes? 🙂

A thoroughly enjoyable flying day today and congrats to Hoppy for picking the day. Commiserations to the unfortunate crashes today and it was sad to see the Boomerang go down.
Like Mike, it has been a long time since I flew FPV and today I tried my first ever FPV landing! After a quick lap around the field, I set up my approach giving me a long gentle glide slope into the wind towards our landing area.
I had forgotten that due to the depression in the terrain when approaching from the west with an easterly breeze, there appears to be a down draft along that glide slope. Thankfully, Andrew noticed the plane losing altitude and gave me a low altitude warning before it was too late. The landing was a little hard but no damage to the plane And I’m looking forward to trying that again to do a better job. I’m eagerly awaiting Hoppy’s video footage of the FPV landing for further analysis.
Oh, a big thank you to Mike for cooking up a first class BBQ at lunchtime.
Attached is my short FPV video of the flight and landing. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any success with capturing the flight metadata or the map recording from my laptop. I’ll need to refresh my memory on how I did that in the past so I have it working for next time.

Nice videos Mike. You nearly ended up visiting Kermit on your adventure! 😂
Big failure on behalf of mine and Andrews chase skills with the prowler. It is much harder than I thought. I think I saw Andrew’s Zero the clearest for the longest so I reckon he is the winner of the chase.Oh, I placed an order for the ELRS stuff yesterday 🙂

Yes Gadget, chasing another plane is rather difficult, especially when there is a significant speed & glideslope difference between the planes.
I fixed the noise in my Zero, just forgot to threadlock the engine mounting bolts. Should be all good again now.
Hopefully we will get another fly next week.

Good videos from all. Gadgets FPV landing even looked spot on, and it’s a pity Gadget and I couldn’t get closer to Predators plane. Great day flying for all minus one.

Yes, all in all a good day (for all but one) with plenty of action captured.
Finally got my last video for the day edited & posted.
Coverage no doubt would have been better with our friendly cinematographer (Kermit B. DeMille) but he chose to be elsewhere on Thursday so we just had to battle on.

Great footage as usual particularly the non-returning Boomerang 😭.
The Zeros never seemed to get close. More practise?
Fingers crossed for the next fly day.
