Looks like the weather isn’t improving any time soon & as I can’t finish the Zero till the motor arrives I have started on yet another build.

I’m sure those with a keen eye will be able to pick what it is from these first couple of pics.

      First 3 fuselage parts

      How it looks together

Ahhh… Nice one Mike. I might have to print one of those as well.

Maybe tomorrow I start to assemble a few bits & pieces.

The fuselage is finished. along with the tail, rudder & elevators so pretty much just the wings to print but I’ll assemble what I’ve finished first. Should have a spare motor around here somewhere to fit this one as it’s only a 680mm wingspan.

Looking more like a P51D Mustang every day

      Mustang?

Got a fair bit more done on the P51D Mustang today.

All 3D printing now finished & tail assembled with servos installed.

I needed to pack one servo up a further 5mm so the control horns missed one another. The pushrods were originally designed with Z bends at both ends but they were too hard to install & impossible to get out after assembly. At least now I can remove the servos if necessary.

I will build the wings tomorrow & install & test the aileron servos. Once that is complete I can join the two halves of the fuselage together & install the rest of the electronics.

I have used 1.5mm CF rod in place of the heavy steel wire (as specified in the plans) for all the joining pins etc, resulting in a significant weight saving, especially in the tail area.

I may use a couple of 5mm CF rods for the wings as the plans only use 5mm 3D printed pins which are OK for positioning parts but add very little strength.
