The guys at Orford decided upon a sailing afternoon at The Orford Pond today with 3 Puddleduckers (Andrew T, Sheep & Bodge) deciding to make the journey at short notice. Dav Read, Ray & Bruce being the Orford group.
six races were conducted over a small triangular course over 3 laps, with the exception of race 6 when the sun started to disappear we decided to shorten to 2 laps. All races were scratch format with close racing in 0-10knts from all points of the compass with plenty of times being becalmed. Sounds familiar to Puddleduck eh ….yep 👍
sheep came up as a passenger but Dav R had a spare 65 so we all had a boat to sail. Sailing was extremely close (too close sometimes 😂) with 3 skippers (Bruce, Dav & Bodge) tying for first place and Ray not far behind in second place. Both Sheep and Andrew had their good moments and were never far behind in difficult sailing conditions. All boats sailed with A rigs.
Dav advised that works are to commence tomorrow to lower the level of the pond to expose a natural rock ledge, this will no longer require skippers to wear gum boots to sail.
Once these works have been completed we will look at potential dates to have an inaugural Orford / Puddleducker event…. Watch this space
