Forcett Lakes – IOM Classic Day
11th March, 2023
Nine skippers fronted upto Forcett Lakes to contest another IOM classic day. Forecast was for overcast conditions with light ENE wind of upto 4knts. We arrived to see light ENE breeze of barely 1 knt, swinging around for a short time to south easterly, then back again throughout the day remaining very light throughout the racing. Being becalmed at times was to be expected.
It made setting a course quite difficult to enable a proper beat to windward with various courses tried with our PRO of the day, Phil “Trout” Jackman doing a great job. The breeze died out completely after 4 races so a lunch break was taken and when we felt a wisp of breeze on our earlobes, it was decided to have another crack at racing.
The format involved a handicap system of 15 sec for a win, 10 sec for second and 5 sec for third with no dropped races, and at the end of the day eight of the nine skippers ending up with a handicap.
First place went to Pete Webberley on 19 Points. He had a day out today with his TS2 with three outright wins, two second places, and two sixth places, great consistent racing Pete. It should also be noted after four races Pete had 50 sec handicap giving the next best boat a 30 sec head start😊. Second place on 25pts went to Pete Turner who had two outright wins and two 3rd placings in his result tally. Rounding out third place (on countback) was myself who just pipped Lisa Blackwood (sorry Lisa 😊). Thank you, Pete, for letting me borrow your spare TS2 for the day.
Special mentions to Wayne “Buzzy” Behrens and Rob Cooney who both stuck their keels into the mud despite depth marking sticks, nice work guys 😊
Overall, it was a pleasant day albeit in light fickle conditions, with plenty of banter on shore. Well sailed by all skippers in frustrating conditions.
Special thank you to Pete Webberley for supplying the tent, rescue boat, BBQ and the box of chocolates you took back home today 😊, and to our PRO today, Trout, thank you, it was greatly appreciated by all who attended today😊.

Great video sinker, resolution is unbelievably clear😳
Loved the tour out to the Derwent and back, great scenery and the old golf course where I lost a few golf balls ( quite a few actually)😂
