There was barely a breath of wind at Puddleduck Vineyard for today’s DF95 racing. Not enough to break the reflections but just enough to set a course and have some sailing. I think that we did well to complete five races today.

We normally associate gear failure with heavy weather sailing but there were a couple of early finishers today. Both Dennis Bowden and Don Macleod had issues today. There was a bit of surface debris around too, especially in the earlier races, causing a nuisance and a bit of angst from those who found it.

Gadget was away today and will be absent for a few weeks while he holidays with Julie in New Zealand. Have a great holiday Ron and Julie!

And Andrew will be taking off next week – a road trip to Perth – so happy trails to you too Andrew. There is a bit of a saying in this sport: “You’re only as good as your last race”. Well Andrew won the last race today and so I think that’s a pretty good place to take off for a break!

So we are missing a fair few of the regulars from the 95’s. Bodge, Jammy, Geoff, Gadget, Andrew and Rod Viney all on leave at the moment. It’s the ideal time for a Bradbury. The last man standing! Just keep on turning up and eventually you will be the only one left racing!

As far as the overall positions went today: I managed third with some consistent sailing but no race wins. First and second were tied on points with Trout and Phil Turnbull locked on 8 points and both with two race wins. Phil got the nod by virtue of a second place being his next best. And Phil couldn’t even make coffee in the café to bask in his triumph and so missed the generous applause of the skippers. But very well done Phil.

We have had quite a calm winter so far. Lets hope for a bit more wind soon!
