Duck Luck ruled the pond today, where the breeze could have come from anywhere, but for most of the time it just didn’t come at all.

Despite this imperfection the day was drenched in glorious sunshine and moderate temperatures. Great to have Sue and Graeme back from Grandie duty sporting a new addition to their family, a beautiful golden spaniel called Bonnie.

A short, fun weigh-in was held prior to racing with some interesting results, more about that later.

Despite the strange and sometimes difficult conditions we managed to have seven different winners in the ten race program this morning. In fact so close was the racing you could throw a small blanket over 75% of the fleet on the finishing line at times.

Poonie #81 wasn’t having his best day. He only sailed two races before winch trouble struck and was forced to retire for the rest of the morning.

In preparation for the upcoming Peter Smith Memorial Regatta, Scrooge was on the controls of Trout’s #11 purple people eater. Trout on the other hand was sailing the RG#8 greyhound in Scrooges place.

Cookie #52 had some success today after switching out his swing rig for a Marconi version. A second in race five and an outright win in the penultimate race nine was a good day out for the Cookster.

What goes around comes around they say and the Smiling Assassin’s #32 ragging on the Admiral #23 for mark missing last time out indeed came back to haunt him with Phil missing number three buoy on more occasions than he would be willing to admit!

With four podiums to his credit the Admiral’s other six results dragged these down as the less appreciated type of Duck Luck kicked in.

Jammy #39 bookended this morning with two outright victories. These straddled a bunch of mid-fleet finishes as Duck luck pulled the rug from under him also.

Bit of a quiet day for our Bodge #6, at least by his standards. His four podium places were only dragged down by some other less glamorous results, see Duck Luck above. Despite this he still managed a very credible second place overall for the day in the DF65 only class.

Sheep #37 jumped through the gate with pace in the first race for the day, a very credible second to Stuart’s # RG8. Unfortunately that was the last we saw of the sheepster at the pointy end this morning as he too struggled with the fluky conditions.

With the occasional stronger breeze flicking through, Trout at the controls of Scrooges greyhound RG#8 steadily clocked up podiums, often finishing a full leg in front of the next boat. He is the winner of the mixed and the RG65 only overall results today.

Bloody Geoff #80 was Mr Consistency with only a single occasion where he dropped below a fourth. With no less than five podium places combined, Bloody Geoff is our overall winner today in the DF65 only class. Congratulations!

Big thank you to Sue for scoring this morning. She had a somewhat busy time with the many tightly bunched finishes we enjoyed. Sue always does a great job for us for which we are most grateful.

      Mixed results from our fun weigh-in this morning. With ten boats weighed (8 x DF65’s + 2 x RG’s) the heaviest DF (rigged A+ & battery) was Bodge’s #6, @ 1331g lightest was Bloody Geoff #80 @ 1287g.

      In the RG’s, the lightest was Cookies #52 @ 1126g with Scrooges #8 @ 1140g.

What matters a lot more than weight though it would seem is a good setup on the boat, the skippers’ skill in decision making and in the consistency of their results.

Thanks everyone for making today a great day out.

      Admiral
