Words & Scoring by John (Shorty) Short

A glorious sunny day at Puddleduck, but the South Easterly wind direction definitely put our skills to the test today. The café building was a huge block  to the wind which caused either full calm conditions or mini willi-willies of wind at the top buoy. As a consequence there were frequently ‘pile-ups’ of boats at this mark. The situation required skippers to show tolerance. Fortunately gentleman-like behaviour was the order of the day and as a result everyone enjoyed themselves.

Some of the races today were so close that the winner, who took command of the results pad, had to show considerable pen speed  to cover the blanket like finishes.

A feature of today’s results was that every skipper reached the podium in at least one race. Special congratulations to Dave Poon who had his first podium finish today. Well done Dave. You are definitely improving from week to week.

First place today was taken by the unstoppable Jammy Jones who quickly worked out that the way to negotiate the wind void at the top mark was to give a wide berth around the cafe.

Dave Woolley took second place with consistent results that featured plenty of third and forth places. This is a particularly good result as Dave has only recently taken up radio sailing.

Ian Hey completed today’s podium with strong finishes in the later races.

      Congratulations to all.

Special thanks are due to Dave Poon’s wife who supplied some very delicious whole-meal muffins that we enjoyed with our post race coffee.

A quick note on the sailing calendar so that we are all on the same page. I do realise that many will be taking holidays or have family priorities over the next few weeks but if you are free then why not sail? It only takes two boats to have a race! We will work to the following:

Tues 21 Dec: Fun/picnic day bring whatever boat you like.
      Tues 28 Dec:  No sailing.
      Tues 4th Jan: DF 65
      Tues 11th Jan: DF 95
Then following in alternate sequence as usual.

      Shorty.
