There didn’t seem to be much wind about at home this morning, nor was there any movement in the trees as I drove out, so I was quite surprised to find that there was a Westerly of about 10 knots at the Vineyard. Westerly wind is always tricky as far as setting a good course at the ‘Duck’ is concerned, but today we tried something new – a butterfly course, squeezing boats back past the inner start buoy each lap. It was probably the best we could do in the conditions. Skippers did need to be aware of the fountain which was directly in the path between two of the buoys!

The spec-savers award went to Phil Turnbull who managed to wrong-side buoys on no fewer than four occasions. Not that I can point the finger at a duffer – I was the one who left my computer hanging over my front gate this morning! And Phil did recover well too, finishing the day 3rd overall.

It was really close racing today with quite a few finishes where a boat coming through with momentum was able to eclipse a boat ahead of them. The podium was well shared around too with all skippers getting at least a second place at some stage.

And close on the scoreboard too! I thought that it was going to be close – but not this close! For the first time since I have been sailing a there was a dead heat for overall winner that could not be separated by count-back. Bodge and Trout both finished on the same number of points, both had the same number of discard points, and both had identical number of race wins, 2nd placings, 3rd placings and 4th placings. What would be the odds of that! Well done to you both.

After sailing today we very much enjoyed some absolutely delicious pastry scrolls that Gadget cooked himself. Thanks Ron – unanimously enjoyed. And speaking of good food – something special next week………

      LUNCH AT PUDDLEDUCK CAFÉ

We thought that it would be a good idea if on occasions we styed for lunch at the café. Next week will be one of the occasions. You don’t need to feel obligated to stay for lunch. We will do our usual coffee and chat first – some skippers may just want to stay for that –  then others who wish to stay on for lunch can do so.

Bodge and I reckon that we should do this about every second month – sometimes it will be on a DF95 day and other times, (like next week), it will be on a DF65 day.

And keep an eye out for State Championship results. The DF95 State Champs will be held at Travallyn dam this weekend. Nine southern skippers including a few of our Puddleduck regulars will be making the trip. The best of luck to all.

Shorty was well and truely in the hunt until his rudder servo packed it in. Thanks for the nibbles Gadget, we will miss you 😂 when you head off overseas for three months.
