Puddleduck Vineyard Racing 29.1.19
For so long our Puddleduck Pond has provided us with weed free sailing of the first class kind; today we paid our dues.
Last week’s outing was hampered by the offending growth and so a small weed clearing party consisting of Pete, Don, Kermit and I assembled this morning shortly before 8.30am armed with rakes and waders to do the business.
Tony had kindly donated some Rowlocks and assorted equipment and would have been with us excepting urgent medical matters took precedent.
Although our efforts showed good result with a dinghy load of the foul weed, loose bits unsettled by our efforts managed to float free and cause havoc in the races that followed.
Only seven races were held today, partly because of our starting later than usual (due to weed gathering), but also due to the excessive amounts left entangling the fleet thereafter.
Results were too mixed to relate anything of note, with many DNF’s scattered throughout. Good performances were recorded from each of Greg #02, Pete #27 and Geoff #79 but the day belonged to David #21 who somehow managed to avoid the weed and sail well and consistently, winning all but one race for the day.
After 7 races (one not scored), with one drop. the final results were:
Ron on 34 points, Dave C on 33, Don on 30, Kermit on 24, Col on 21, Greg on 18, Pete on 17, Geoff on 16 and our winner today David on 5 points.
Thank you everyone for your tolerance to our weed problem and help with solving it today.
Thank you also to Dave W for stepping in to PRO for us today, very much appreciated.
Our meeting on Racing Guidelines over the coffee break was well attended and a good solid set of Guidelines has resulted. Thank you everyone for your positive contributions and suggestions. A full account will be published in the forum section of our club website.
No pics today as our resident media man has been away on a camping trip.
