      DF65 / RG65 sailing at Puddleduck Vineyard – 07.01.2025

Happy New Year to all 😊

Let us hope for another enjoyable year sailing at Puddleduck Vineyard.

Sunny skies greeted eighteen skippers to “The Duck” today for another hotly contested DF/RG65 day. It was a little cool with the1-3knt breeze generally coming from the SE / S /SW which kept the skippers on their toes, and thumbs.

We were missing Gadget today who is currently in Qld enjoying some warmer conditions, but we did welcome back our ever reliable and dedicated scorer Sue (& Bonnie the ferocious guard dog) after a short break even though she is currently on crutches. It was great to see you Sue and thank you to both you and Graeme for scoring / assisting, it was greatly appreciated by all.

We also welcomed Richard Wylie today from Orford / Triabunna sailing Group who is keen to join us when he can. Richard enjoyed a third place in R8 today which is a great result considering his first outing at The Duck. Well done Richard! 😊

On a side note, one skipper (shall remain nameless) launched his boat before R1 without turning it on, might add not for the first time either! It sailed beautifully across the dam finally stopping in the mud. The nameless skipper ran around to the other side, emptied the dinghy of water and was just about to launch it when a gust turned his boat around 180deg and it set sail back to the jetty side. The nameless skipper ran back around, just in time to walk onto the jetty and pick his boat up. Yep never seen that happen before 😊

Sailing was very competitive today with six different skippers taking a line honours victory over the course of 9 races, and with 17 boats on the water, you can imagine it became a little congested at various buoy roundings, but generally well behaved. Thank you skippers 😊

Within the 17-boat fleet, we had 1 x RG65, and 1 X DF95. In combined fleet results, Stuart took the honours sailing his RG65 on net 23pts, Jammy second on 27pts, and Lisa taking 3rd place on 30pts. In the DF only class, Jammy easily took 1st place with a tie for second place between Bloody Geoff and Switch, with Switch taking 2nd place on countback. Unlucky BG !

Overall, it was a very enjoyable day with sailing enjoyed by all skippers whether they were up the pointy end or at the rear of the fleet. We all enjoyed some competitive sailing wherever we were situated. After sailing, the PDV crew decided to sit us outside today under the umbrellas in a very relaxing atmosphere, a great call as it was bloody marvellous 😊

Thank you again to the crew at PDV for providing their great hospitality and see you all next time at The Duck
