Marvellous weather (after the rubbish we have been having lately), brought out a bumper fleet for Puddleduck sailing today. Sue recorded 19 sailors on her sheet but we only had that total for race 2. Numbers dwindled as the morning progressed. The return of some of our grey nomads from warmer climates also bumped up our numbers. Welcome back to Bodge and Jammy. It’s good that you have returned home safely.
The temperature was forecast to top at 19 deg and I think we got close to that today while sailing. What wasn’t really appreciated was the 14-22 knot gusts that happened throughout the morning. Most sailors had A+ rigs and at times were being blown all over the place. John #19 was the only sailor with an A rig and I believe this may have been his first sail at Puddleduck. After getting a bit of practice in during the morning and learning some of the Puddleduck strategies, he gradually improved and managed to win the last race. Well done, John.
A warm welcome to a few new/returning sailors as well. It was good to see Martin back at Puddleduck and he managed to submit the online form to join the club today with a little bit of assistance.
A big thank you to Shorty who came along to see what all the fuss is about with the DF65’s and helped Sue out with the finish line. I believe Shorty had a go with Alan’s boat, #368 and managed to win race 4 adding 15 seconds to Alan’s handicap! Onya Shorty 👍
The huge numbers of DF65’s and gusty winds today were probably not favourable to our RG65 fleet. I did notice that both Graeme and Bluey retired early. On that note, sailors need to be more considerate to other sailors in these conditions. It was noticed that quite a few sailors did not do penalties when infringing other boats i.e. not giving way to starboard etc. I also noticed quite a few sailors completely missed buoys and did not go back around. We like to keep the sailing friendly and enjoyable for everyone at Puddleduck but sailors need to be honest and go back around if a buoy is missed and do the penalty if you infringe another boat.
Congratulations to our podium winners today. Flash in third position on 42 points then Bodge in second with 35 points and Jammy in first on 31 points.
A big thank you to Sue for the scoring again today.
Reminder – Can sailors please check in with Sue when you arrive to get your boat number registerred. Also, to help out Puddleduck staff, please let Sue know if you are staying back after sailing and wish to pre-order a drink (coffee, tea or wine etc).
