A lovely warm summers day greeted the biggest DF/RG65 fleet I have witnessed sailing at Puddleduck.
17 sailors showed up for what was going to be very interesting racing at the Duck.
The wind was reasonably consistent from the north with gusts up to 30 km/h so we opted to head to buoy one and sail around the lot twice. We managed to complete 10 races.
With so many participants and a small dam to sail around, things got very congested rounding buoys with quite a few getting stuck in the process. A number of sailors retired with battery problems and non-responsive yachts. My receiver battery only lasted for six races for some reason. When I got home, I noticed that my charger was set to “storage charge” so I had only charged my battery up to half way ☹ Needless to say, the Puddleduck rescue dingy was called on several times over the morning.
Stuart was off to a lightning start as he usually does with two firsts in the first three races but his boat became unresponsive in the fourth race and needed rescuing with the dingy. Unfortunately, Stuart’s boat suffered some damage in the process which prevented him from continuing to sail.
This is one of the rare times that an RG class yacht has not taken a podium place in the combined fleet class.
So, congratulations to Lisa for third place, Matthew Gray for second place and our overall winner for the day, Trout.
