Sunny Sailing at Puddleduck
Eighteen sailors gathered at Puddleduck Vineyard on a beautiful sunny day with light winds (0-3 knots) from the northeast. The Derwent River was calm this morning, but thankfully, a gentle breeze emerged for some enjoyable racing.
It was great to see everyone again after some time away, and we extend a big thank you to Sue, our dedicated scorer, for her tireless work.
The Admiral (#23) was also in attendance today after a bit of a spell. He was out of the gate like a flash in race one taking line honours and it looked like he was going to lead the pack today.
Welcome again to Richard Wiley (I think) (#287) from Orford who sailed reasonably today and finishing up in mid field.
I was a bit rusty after my absence, and a loose mainsheet guide eye hindered my performance in the first race. I was wondering why my mainsheet wouldn’t sheet in all the way. From being down the back end of the fleet, I didn’t notice to much going on in front of me so I’m guessing the usual rafting up around marks were few in numbers, or cleared by the time I got there!
Phil Watkins (Fab) (#17) and Martin (#43) both had some bad luck today. Fab’s rudder servo failed after the first race, and Martin experienced issues with his power switch.
Combined Fleet
Once again, Stuart (Bluey) was a clear winner today on only 15 points after drops in the combined fleet. Closely followed by Lisa on 20 points and John Penman (JP) in third with 27 points. Congratulations on the combined fleet podium placings.
DF65 Class
Lisa was the clear winner in this class with 15 points after drops. Interesting to note that after drops, her worst finishing position was third! Well done, Lisa. JP takes second on 21 points closely followed by Bodge on 22 points. Congratulations the DF65 class podium positions.
Upcoming Events
28th January – DF95 sailing followed by lunch at Puddleduck.
4th February – DF65/RG65 sailing.

Thanks Bodge.
I wrote it up and then put it through AI as we discussed over coffee. It changed it so much, it didn’t sound like me so I clipped out a few of the AI bits and put it in mine. I feel like a bit of a hybrid now! 😜🤣
