A warm spring morning of about 20 degrees with a gentle 8 knot breeze from the east/north-east greeted 12 Puddleduck sailors today.
Easterly winds are not favourable at Puddleduck so we opted for a course of buoys 1, 2 and 3, twice around with buoys to port.
This seemed to work quite well so we maintained this course until the last race where we went around the lot.

Racing was generally quite civil and the Admiral was overheard commenting how well behaved everyone was rounding buoy 1 on one of the races.
Most races were tightly contested throughout the morning with 10 out of 12 sailors receiving handicaps.

Poonie and Andrew tangled on the first race which didn’t do them too good right from the start.  Poonie’s boat battery failed and he had a few DNS’s which never helps.  He did manage to get back on the water and achieved a respectable 6th place in race 9.  Well done Poonie for your persistence.  Andrew also recovered and managed a 2nd placing in race 3.

Congratulations to Stuart for being the outright winner in the combined sailing with 24 points.
Trout and the Smiling Assassin both scored 27 points but Trout takes second place on countback with two firsts compared with one first for the Smiling Assassin.

DF65 class sees Trout being the winner on 22 points and the Smiling Assassin in second with 23 points.
Third place sees Jammy with 27 points which is surprising because Jammy normally performs better. Oh well, even the best sailors have a not so good day.  Just goes to show we are all human 🙂

A big thank you to Sheep for being our scorer today in the absence of Sue and Bonnie.  We also look forward to Graeme returning back to the fold.

Great footage Gadget, including Bloody Geoff hitting the errant fish (or whatever it was) in race 2!

What is the second most embarrassing thing after mounting the fountain – yep, leaving your boatstand behind.

Anyone pick it up?  If not the staff at the Duck usually hold it for collection.

Well, at least your name is on it Stuart 🙂

Many thanks Gadget for running the day, the hatcam footage and of course the write up. It’s good to have you back in the country, back in the fleet and back in the thick of it in no time.
Thanks to Sheep for keeping things tidy on the scores and for the other 11 skippers for your company and the gentleman-like sailing you put in today. What a great bunch we have.

Unfortunately these are the last two races that were recorded on my hatcam as the SD card ran out of space.  I’ll need to get a larger SD card card if I want to capture all the races.  Might be a good time with Black Friday sales coming up 🙂
