Puddleduck Sailing – RG/DF65s 23.5.23
Sixteen skippers fronted up to the Duck today which from memory would be the biggest fleet for quite some time. Wind was mostly from the NW 1-5 knts which tended to die out at varying intervals mostly at the starts and finishes when everyone would have liked a bit more breeze.
Unlike two weeks ago there was no major carnage however just trying to round the buoys without collisions was nearly impossible unless a very wide buoy rounding was deployed. Unfortunately, most skippers wanted to take the shortest route and they ended up becoming tangled or forced on the wrong side of the buoy.
Nine races were completed within our two-hour window which was quite an accomplishment considering the number of boats on the water, with seven different race winners. There was also a great mixture of experience from National Champs to newbies, with the newbies being able to hold their heads high with commendable sailing. Bruce who is still learning the ropes of DF65 sailing , did manage a second in race 4, well sailed Flash 😊. Ray should also be commended competing well with his A rig, which put him at a slight disadvantage sailing against A+ rigs. Andrew continues to improve each week with practice at the Lauderdale canal showing the benefits.
We had a new sailor today, Ray, who as you know, is from the Orford/Triabunna sailing group. Ray only has an A rig and was wondering if anyone had a spare A+ sail and rig they might be interested in selling. If so please contact Bodge and he can pass on any details to Ray.
First overall today was Scrooge (RG65, 18 points) with results including 2 x 1st places, 2 x 2nd places and a third place, well sailed old fella 😊. Second overall was Lisa who was only 3 points behind Scrooge fine tuning her skills for the Nationals in Qld at the end of the month along with Matty G. Third place overall went to Jammy on 27 Points which was his last outing for three months as he heads over to the big island chasing the warmer weather. Enjoy your trip Jammy.
In the DF65 only class, Lisa finished first on 18 points, Jammy second with 21 points, with 3rd place tied between Trout and Bodge on 25 points. Well sailed to all that competed today.
Thank you again to Sue & Bonnie for scoring the results and taking the all important drinks order and Gadget for supplying the results, starting sequence equipment, course setting etc
See you all next time.
Bodge.

Excelent write up once again Bodge.
All in all, sailors appeared to be well behaved from what I saw which made for a great days sailing.
Here is my hat cam footage from race 2. In all the setting up etc, I forgot to press record on race 1!
I’m still processing some more races and will be available a bit later on.
