      Puddleduck Sailing – RG/DF65s 24.10.23

Fourteen skippers fronted up to Puddleduck today to contest bragging rights for the day with plenty of banter before the first button press. Poor ol Bloody Geoff was the main recipient but it was all in good humour.

The northerly breeze was light to start off with and slowly strengthened throughout the morning with the usual wind shifts to contend with. The two RGs were the only boats to downsize their rigs late in the morning, with the DFs staying with their A+ rigs for the day. The starts were very congested making it difficult to get clean start air. Interestingly when the button is pressed, all chatter ceases and you could hear a pin drop ….. until someone infringes 😊.

With fourteen competitive boats on the water, rounding buoys proved to be quite an exercise even if you attempted to steer clear, very close racing was the order of the day with eight different skippers scoring an outright win.

In the combined classes result, overall honours were shared by Scrooge (RG65) and the Retired Admiral (DF65) both on 29 points. Third place went to Jammy Jones on 31 points. Well sailed chaps !

In the DF65 only results, Jammy pipped the Admiral by one point for first place with the Smiling Assassin coming in third place 3 points adrift.

In the RG65 class it was another close battle between Scrooge and Cooka with Scrooge taking the honours.

The rescue dinghy was deployed late in the morning to rescue Bloody Geoff’s boat after losing steerage following an altercation with another yacht. To make up for it, I am sure Bloody Geoff (8th) will be happy that he managed to beat Bodge (11th) in the results, nice work Geoff 😊 …. Next week eh!!

Thank you to all skippers, Sue and Bonnie for keeping score, and PD crew for looking after us yet again, see you next week for DF95s at the “Duck”.

Big fleet, lively conditions proved to be plenty of excitement today with the ‘duckers. Hotly contested finishes, close tacking duels and plenty of laughter made it a great day all ‘round.
Thanks to Sue, Bonny and Bodge for their efforts in make it all fun.
