Fifteen sailors rolled the dice today at the Duck to see what wind conditions would favour them. It was the mixed bag as usual, with the wind coming from each corner of the compass.

Today was great practice for everyone to hone their sailing skills in preparation for this weekends Peter Smith Memorial Regatta.

The course of 2 – 3 – 4 – outside starboard start marker seemed to work most of the morning, so we stuck with that.

We had the usual missed buoys, getting caught on buoys, running aground and bunching up on the corners. Everyone seemed to take it in their stride and not get too annoyed, or flustered with the occasional mishap. It was good to see that penalties were taken by sailors where required.

It was fairly competitive sailing at the pointy end of the score board with 10 points separating the top five.

Congratulations to Lisa for first place on 22 points.

Next, The Admiral and Jammy tied with 29 points apiece but The Admiral came second on a countback. Scoring two firsts: race five and eight, definitely helped The Admiral there.

Cookie started off well with two podium places in the first two races, and it looked like he was going to be the one to beat but, unfortunately, servo problems put an end to his sailing and he retired from race four onwards.

We all now know why Bodge wanted to have that last race as he convincingly beat everyone to the finishing line.  He may have hoped that coming first in the last race would put him in front of Geoff. The $1 scratchy between those two adversaries goes to Geoff by two points this week!

Thanks to Sue and Bonnie for the scoring again this week. You definitely make sailing pleasurable for the rest of us with your cheerful dedication.

Best of luck to all of the sailors who are participating in the Peter Smith Regatta this weekend. For your convenience, the format of the day will follow the score sheets.
